It's available on Apple Books. That's best for me. Look forward to reading. I just ordered Amerikas Gotteskrieger from Annika Brockschmidt. Surely you follow each other on Bluesky ... Also a fan of Frederick Clarkson's.
Bought the book from my local bookshop in paper format so I can share it with friends. Working with my therapist so I can get up the guts to read it —I didn’t realize the trauma I carried from my teens spent in one of those churches until it roared back as existential terror this election season. /1
The beliefs never made coherent sense to me, and I couldn’t make myself step into their cage. No one else seemed to notice the discrepancies so I felt alone and weird. Just the talk around the book makes me feel less alone and more brave. I can’t wait to actually read it.
I followed you on twitter, and yours was one of the accounts I enjoyed so I followed you when I realised you were here. Looking forward to your book coming out here - it's on my Christmas list!
If there’s one thing I know looking at the recent top follower counts on this app, it’s that absolute peak is within reach if you do decide to go full resistance grifter. Could be good for book sales. I’m just saying think about it.
Maybe — just MAYBE — it’s because (a) you’re a good writer and (b) you’re not afraid to say what you think. It could also be (c) the grilled cheese factor. Please just keep doing what you’re doing.
When you post on Star Trek it’s because you like it, not because you’ve decided to target a demographic. When you write a book, it’s years of research, not churning out what people want to hear. So much social media is always-on. Posts like yours give me back the freedom to be myrself.
Author of not one but TWO books that are vital for understanding 2024 America, sandwiches, swords, all very fine, but I will be forever be following the person who made Alex Trebek say Turd Ferguson on live TV, tyvm.
i followed you on twitter because people on my politics list kept retweeting you so i put you on the list and after a while i noticed i was posting a lot of screenshots of your tweets (mostly shitposty ones) on facebook. (i haven't been on fb since 2020.) so don't forget the shitposting
It’s the starter packs. I’ve almost reached my Twitter too. That took me ten years over there LOL people are just clicking the shit out of starter packs and the bigger accounts are in hundreds of them.
theyre basically lists of accounts you can follow a bunch of in one click (up to 150). nice for populating feeds and very useful for specific interests like marine biology, or disability studies, or medieval agricultural history or whatever
I actually wish that people made feeds for specific interests not starter packs. I literally cannot follow all the archaeologists in all the archaeology starter packs (and want my feed here to have other things). I happily dip into focused feeds. I’m trying to coax people to shift to feeds.
Feeds take a little more work to set up than the starter packs, so I can understand why people fall back on those instead.
I agree that the feeds work better once up and running though, and can introduce you organically to new people within the associated field far better too, in the long-term.
It’s probably in your feeds list to left of profile page. Swipe tight if bec. Then click pin to homepage & it’ll be one of the tabs at the top of your page. Like Discover or following. It’s a good way to drill into certain topics without having to wade through whatever is in your following feed
Thanks. I know how to use feeds. My point is that my community is investing a lot of work in creating starter packs when the common interest part of this is feeds. There are archaeology feeds but they merge all types of archaeology. We could use more variety.
i had like 850 accounts i was following on twitter, and that extension picked up about 330 of them on bsky. not perfect but definitely gave me a great start here.
Starter Packs are lists of people with common interests or other reasons someone thought to group them together. They come with a Subscribe All button. It initializes your feed with curated groups of people.
i have to assume there’s also appeal after years of bad twitter, then musk twitter, & insta’s weird algo jamming strangers in there, that people are truly refreshed to be intentionally seeing posts by a human who is human, not a content factory or someone posting the way twitter made one post?
Building on your idea of seeing posts by humans (which is nice), also, I think we need to feel connected right now. When the future feels so unknown and precarious, it is nice to know that other people understand and at least we are not alone.
at least among a lot of the early adopters here, it felt like there was way less posting *at* the world and more posting *with* people and that’s been nice because i am worn tf out and constantly busy and it feels like a lot of real people here, in a not quite parasocial/unhealthy way?
truly underrated how i would like to talk about important things but sometimes what’s important is i accidentally boofed an ambien or i can’t stop singing an insane clown posse song i haven’t heard in 26 years and all of that is here and most of the folks i follow also have this range but better.
if talia wanted to do 30 straight days of nothing but “she x on my y til i z” posting, i wouldn’t even mute her. it’s my duty to sit through that at this point. she’s earned it.
I only have a few paltry thousand, but by the end of this last weekend I had already surpassed my 16+ year Twitter follower total, and have added another 150 or so since
I’m at a measly 1k, but seeing as I had 2k on Twitter after ELEVEN YEARS I feel that’s ok. (Also alternating between two languages tend to keep the numbers down)
I imagine that the population here is fundamentally different than at ex-twitter. One comes here to have conversations about things one likes and cares about. If you're well known but not rabid, lots of people will follow to chat. You do know, don't you, that follower metrics here are irrelevant?
I have a number of knuckle-dragging Trump relatives who are Star Trek fans who will tell you that they just like all the science fiction aspects, and that they tune out the "woke shit"
What do you call someone who tunes into FoxNews, hears all their beliefs reaffirmed and fears justified, and then checks with no other sources to verify any of what they saw? Is that person media illiterate, or intellectually lazy, or neither, or both?
You're cool. My account is not political either. We need non political content too. And on here it doesn't get spammed. Or if it does it is easier to control.
I mean what's the point of resistance stuff anymore? We're just going to oscillate between "Democrats running the federal government as if they're a disinterested small town mayor" and "Republicans speedrunning the Fourth Reich" for the rest of our lives
Positive posting, stater packs and bluesky is essentially new ground. I'm only tiny but I feel even my posts are getting a tiny bit of attention which never happened on twitch.
I wish I'd got in sooner! Pretty sure those of you on those early starterpacks are going to fly as Bluesky lifts off.
When i was active on Twitter i followed you but haven’t been there in a couple years though the account still exists. But now on Bluesky and you were on my first follow list. So there’s probably others like me, just getting back into “twitter” again. Also, bought your book, looking forward to it.
You were here early. OG skeeters just wanted someone who posted anything, and then when there were the mass Xdosuses, people who valued your reporting before and resistance people came to follow. And new people to the platform followed you from Starter Packs!
Good posts matter...and folks are getting tired of hearing the same warnings, platitudes and blame-shaming they were seeing on Ex. People appreciate fresh air.

if anyone deserves a few months of pure shitposting, it’s you.
Starter packs are wild
So did y'all discuss whether hot dogs are sandwiches?
