This is pretty. I have the Seek app by iNaturalist installed on my phone to help identify things that I don’t recognize (from plants to animals, insects…)
They are common in the northeast. This is the provincial flower of Ontario. So beloved are they that it's illegal here to pick them. The red ones are even more lovely. Not the best photo but you can see that while they call it red it's actually more purple.
This covered the hill behind our house along with many species of wildflowers. I never see it anymore. My Dad still lives there. I took that for granted.
I eagerly await them every May 1. I have my favorite spots to look for them. DO NOT PICK THEM, they only have one bloom a year and you’re killing the entire plant!
About now is also the time to harvest wild garlic ("ail des bois"), found in forests in Canada. The plant resembles the trillium especially in the Spring before the flowers bloom.

On the farm my dad grew up on was a field of it...ran into it one spring searching for morels. Crested a hill and 😮...just a sea of white...it's etched in my brain still, we both just stood there. Before he passed a few years later he told mom that's were he wanted his ashes in the spring.

It seems rare to find a cluster of trillium, on hikes we usually spot them individually
