Most encryption rests on the fact that very large prime numbers when multiplied together only have two factors, those original two large prime numbers.

So the idea is very very hard math.

This makes that math a lot easier, as the factoring is now possible in closer to real time.

Not just bitcoin. While the qubits required are still well beyond what they are achieving with actual quantum computers, and as the article says, we should be moving to quantum-resistant (PQC, post-quantum computing) encryption now, so that by the time it is feasible, we're safe.

No, it's not what we need. They are using Bitcoin as an example. Breaking RSA encryption would have much wider implications for the real world outside of cryptocurrency. Example: You wouldn't know if you're actually communicating with Amazon's servers when ordering something without encryption.
