Becket had famously been murdered in 1170, by knights of Henry II. Many people began praying to him almost immediately for miracles & some found their prayers answered. Some of those ppl made their way to Canterbury to pay their respects. 6/
That means many of these accounts contain stories of ppl’s intimate family lives & some of the pilgrims were themselves women. The text could provide a unique & unparalleled resource of 7/
My mom was also a frustrated historian (PhD in French women’s history but who hired women academics in the 70s etc.) so your MIL sounds familiar and I adore her and I’m sorry for your loss.
