Man, I feel so out of place only hating LoL because I had an ex that would get in a call and mute for hours and ignore me the whole time before ending the call for the night.
Plus as much as I wanted to like 2077, in their 2.0 remake they made components look like swastikas. So...
Heroes of the Storm was the moba to get into because it was so simple. I just don’t have the desire to memorize builds, 80 characters, specific roles or else someone will yell at me for picking the wrong toon in DOTA or LoL. It’s a shame Heroes is basically dead because it wasn’t hardcore enough.
I do too. It was just so laid back and easy. I didn’t feel the need to min/max my talents, but I never played ranked on HotS so that might have been toxic. Casual matches and bot matches were up my alley after a long day at work.
I really miss Monday Night Combat though. Amazing game.
Same. Only QMs. I was enjoying HotS and didn't want to hate it.
League literally traumatised me. I used to only play non-ranked games. Then I made the mistake of playing one, missed three hooks with Thresh and my ADC starting wishing cancer on my mother.
I would pre-order whatever the most expensive version was if they did a simple remake. Their second attempt of Super Monday Night Combat just didn't hit the same.
Love HotS for the same reasons. We are trying to do something similar to HotS, but with asym multiplayer instead. Casual and quick matches that's easy to pick-up and no evil nerds yelling at your neck.
I went the opposite direction and got into bloodline champions and later battle rite where you had to manually aim everything even your "auto" attacks.
I just really loved batterite because it felt more like a fighting game, no creeps to farm or items to buy, you picked your build before the game, and you built up energy from fighting to use your ultimate or an alternate version of your skills.
God I miss that game. But it died when they split the small player base by making a battle Royale mode because that was the "in" thing to do at the time. R.I.P.
there was a LOTR moba by the guys that made the Shadow of Mordor series that kinda slapped for the same reason, there's like one discord server of 20 people that still run games of it lol
Deadlock is a good place to start from what I hear. First person shooter, but the match flow is the same.
Honestly, it is better to look into things with shorter match length. Those tend to be less toxic since people don't think "this is the one match I can play tonight and you are ruining it"
Cyberpunk 2077 is genuinely one of the best games of the last half decade, it truly is a masterpiece and I’m glad the dev team never let it die like Concord.
Dude the first time Arcane came out even LoL players were warning people away. That's how you know a community is cancerous. The warning calls are coming from in the house
It's amazing. League of Legends is a game so bad it makes DOTA 2 look good, with a community so vitriolic it makes a CoD lobby look anti-racist... And somehow Arcane is one of the best animated TV shows I've ever seen.
I started a match and all I said was I wanted to play jungle and some random person just kept calling me a retard over and over. All I did was say the role I wanted ... League community is actually a bunch of unhinged losers
Honestly though the main problems with the game are solely community, the game itself is fine! But just like most popular anime, the fanbase (or here, players) ruin it (or try to), lol
I've been thinking about this lately. I get the meme that LoL should be avoided even if you love Arcane, but I believe that if someone genuinely wants to know more about Runeterra, then let them but warn them that the game is a competitive esport.
Like they need to know what they are getting themselves into besides outright ill-advising it. If someone wants to learn kickboxing, they need to accept they're going to get really hurt. Similarly with LoL: You want to play as the Runterrans we all love and hate? Understand this game hurts.
Aside from Heroes of the Storm. I didn't play it for long, but it was the one Moba that I didn't mind for a while and it had a good reputation for a reason. I think it failed because the hardcore moba types didn't like it, but us filthy casuals don't like moba style games to begin with.
This is so on point. A younger dude with good reflexes tried to get me to play League of Legends. The lore he spouted sounded interesting, but nothing else did. I'd heard way too much about how LoL and Mobas were the most toxic games online, and so I never even tried to get into them. No regrets.
While both of them are great shows, Cyberpunk took the time to fix issues and make their game fun to play while ironing out most of the problems.
League on the other hand, while they do great with spin off materials, struggles to bring balance. Skins and new champions don't help solve the issues.
Stands for All Random All Mid. A normal game has 3 lanes everyone picks their champion and it usually lasts 20-30+ min. ARAM has 1 lane and you are just given a random champion, games go about 15-20min.
There’s less macro strategy because it’s just all team fighting all the time.
I just find the MOBA genre's gameplay to be boring as hell. I thought that I might get into Pokémon UNITE (I LOVE Pokémon), but even then... nah. That coupled with the rep LoL players have built for themselves, and I'm entirely uninterested in joining them. Arcane and 2XKO are as close as I'll get.
As someone who played League for...more years than I'd like to say, this may be one of the few times this meme is justified. LoL is a fun game on paper, but its not worth what ya getting yourself into.
It really isn't if you just play quick matches. I've been playing for about a decade and the times I've tried ranked not been a pleasant experience. I'd say find a champion you find cool and watch some YT matches to learn then give it a shot. Best position to start with is playing top lane
I’ve played for years, currently work there, but not on League. But it’s a 5v5 game. So you get thrown into a match with 4 random people on your tea, people are quick to point fingers as to why they aren’t winning.
If you want to play the Arcane game instead of playing League of Legends you could play Legends of Runeterra. Same universe, solo play, more story telling
Here's a list of the Non-LoL LoL games you can play (on steam too!)
Ruined King
Song of Nunu
Convergence
The Mageseeker
Hextech Mayhem
all of them have the "A League of Legends Story" tag put on them
That's awesome! I worked on it for 3 years to get it to production and then after. It's like the least known Riot game but it has a special place in my heart.

I uninstalled and never looked back.

It just an extra level of complexity I don't care for.
Like, "headshot booster" Is kinda self explanatory for example
not like Heroes of the Storm haha
LoL: ...*shudders*

Those tools are automated and they don't get Linux, with its plethora of flavors correct so they just don't bother
yes i said it
The old ttrpg
LoL players: Trust me, you don't want to try this game. Run. Run while you still can!!
League of Legends has Seraphine while Arcane doesn't have her
League on the other hand, while they do great with spin off materials, struggles to bring balance. Skins and new champions don't help solve the issues.
2XKO looks clean af, tho. I'd like to give that a try.
To me League is a game to play with a full or near full group. Or play ARAMs where people are chill because who the hell cares about ARAMs.
There’s less macro strategy because it’s just all team fighting all the time.
When the blue buff came from Wraith Camp.
Steer clear.
It was the only thing that made me mad enough to forget the pain.
I mostly played ARAM which is a very casual mode.
Fighting game is fire though.
Ruined King
Song of Nunu
Convergence
The Mageseeker
Hextech Mayhem
all of them have the "A League of Legends Story" tag put on them
(Please, my game is dying!)
Avoid league like the plague
Damn the meta, play your way!
All
MOBAs
Are
Toxic
