I just read another of those "The Oscars are irrelevant because they don't honor movies real people see" essays. So, my annual rant: Two of last year's box office top 10 are Best Picture nominees. Is the idea that the Oscars would be "relevant" if they were more? If I'm Still Here were replaced...

The old argument of commercial success does not translate into critical. People who complain about it are stupid people who don’t have the patience to sit through an actual film. Uneducated

In any case I sort of laugh at all the "The Academy should realize X and decide to recognize Y" takes. It's a *lot* of people, not a dozen who can meet around a table and discuss how to vote 2/2
when the Oscars honored achievement
regardless of box office reception.
"A Man for All Seasons" comes to mind.
