One reason I loathe the Democratic "Actually it's about egg prices" faction is that it assumes we're on the wrong (because unpopular) side of trans issues, and that therefore the only way to address GOP attacks on trans people is to smirk that it's not a kitchen-table issue. That is also immoral.

This is right. I hate the the "right" has claimed morality as a "Christian" issue. Morality is societal. A pact. Many religions have contributed to morality but none are essential to what we as a society decide. I think that is the fight... is greed moral? Is dehumanization of any group moral?

morals are personal, not the basis of law. your immoral is someone else’s moral. in a democracy we come to some agreement about what the law should be so we can live together. if one side of the island thinks stealing is good and your side thinks it’s bad. yelling stealing is immoral is pointless.

Democrats apparently retain some vestigial shame. Like, Clinton is our Reagan and we kinda know how fucked that is now, even if we are still a lot in denial. So adopting the language of moralism not only feels like ceding ground to the enemy, but also feels extra hypocritical.
