non-voting leftists don't say "how dare you" they say "fuck off, pest." harm-reduction-voter leftists like me notice the dynamic and ask vote scolds to please shut the fuck up and understand that some people need to vent and/or abstain. your scolding isn't for them, it's for you.

"How dare you admonish me for my values?!" says the non-voting leftist or libertarian. As if our values and how they collide with policy and human lives are off limits of criticism. In other contexts, this is exactly the kind of paper-thin, airy neutrality that leftists skewer liberals for.

No, go fuck yourself
We shouldn't scold them, but not because scolding them is wrong, rather because it's wrong to reward nonvoters and undecideds with the attention they crave.
they don’t desire praise or universal agreement, they desire not to be condescended to by people no less ideological
We live in scary times
If I were to engage, maybe I should try this:
“You’re a Russian bot”
[denial/insult]
“That’s exactly what a Russian bot would say.”
[denial/insult]
“That’s exactly what a Russian bot would say.”

This is all to say that the voting discourse can be really funny (and sometimes depressing) for an outside observer.
They are not serious people.
like, I get the impulse, I personally think voting is very important, but yelling at people on the internet almost never works in general and it certainly doesn’t work when it comes to vote scolding
-most people vote scolding are not good at it and should stop
-many are just venting frustration
-as someone likely to be targeted someone saying my healthcare isn’t worth voting for is not owed my kindness
-the point isn’t to persuade them its to persuade onlookers
- a nonzero number of people allegedly withholding votes and a lot of people seemingly scolding vote withholding are actually people to the right of all of us who want us yelling at each other.
Kinda like the jagoffs that wait for the sports-championship mass celebration to throw bricks through windows.
Just pissing in everyone's cornflakes and making everyone mad at anybody left of Romney.
There's no politics to be had here.
Like, you can deeply disagree with Dem policy and still concede the two parties are not interchangeable.
Change gotta come from somewhere.
If they don't let you steer, accelerate.🤷♀️
