honestly if we lose to trump the country is so obviously bone-deep fucked and poisonous that casting blame within the broadest coalition of the left is fruitless. it would mean it was sisyphean all along.

It's hard to see a way forward after a Trump win that doesn't involve widespread violence, especially because right-wingers actually constitute an ideological minority who gain and maintain power through cheats built into government and that tension has been building for a while now.
There hasn't been a single Republican who's become President with a public mandate since 1988, and each one has been worse than the last and has appointed SCOTUS judges who've maintained that agenda even when Republicans haven't been in power. And then there's the Senate, and gerrymandering.
We're at the point where a despotic zealot could use the Electoral College to undermine the public will and inflict an agenda only supported by the most regressive like 35% of the country. Either the public will revolt, or regressives will inflict violence trying to maintain control. Bad either way.
And like, IDK, honestly for all their talk and gunfuckery and violence fetishization, right-wingers are so goddamn dumb and panicky and terrible at strategy and long-term thinking that you could easily, y'know… wipe out a lot of them pretty fast. Paint a tunnel on a cliffside and they'll run into it
It helps that ideologically they're opposed to ever cutting off the free-flowing supply of weapons in this country. Like… that's going to backfire for them when push comes to shove. But also you could just, like, hold a big racism rally in the middle of the desert and [REDACTED].
My biggest fear is Biden squeaked by and now we have misogyny and racism to deal with plus Trump reaching out to a dozen different sets of raw milk or anti-vax type freaks.
But there's J6, Project 2025, Dobbs, Trump's brain dribbling out his ears, and the full mask-off racism.
Already committed to not reading any postmortems if she loses. No one knew dickshit in 2016, they don’t know better now, and the “reason why she lost” will undoubtedly be whatever the important political journos pet peeve is (didn’t reach out to poor whites, too liberal, not anti-trans, etc)
If Harris wins we'll get to see alll the same liberal dipshits go right back to brunch for another four years. I genuinely don't know what Trump will do this time though because he's getting old.
I don't see a Harris win as changing much. If almost 50% of voters believes Trump is a good choice, the country is already bone-deep fucked - regardless of the election outcome.
the left is both responsible for every election and also irrelevant to try and get the votes from. also the left is me when I want and not me when I want to punch left.
shit's fucked anyways. I don't buy the line that harris even buys us time anymore
i dunno man this country sucks but I’m just not blackpilled enough to believe “there is no possible campaign that could’ve been run (2016 or now) that could’ve beat Trump”
I still think Kamala is going to win based on Roe and people are preemptively hedging because they don’t wanna appear wrong online again like 2016. But if she does lose it’s a testament to campaigning badly and not having coherent answers to several basic policy positions
i have to be honest: with very few exceptions - and casting no aspersions on people who opt out for moral grounds even though i find the idea personally untenable even living in new york - there are no answers she could give that should lose to what he's selling in a country with any moral compass
But she hasn’t been saying anything substantial is the issue. Early on she was and they backed off of that strategy and it’s biting them in the ass now and people are sweating because the margins are tightening.
Here's the thing: I think the biggest objection from nonvoters is that both parties are too similar so it doesn't seem to matter on many issues, and the DNC has decided to confront this by abandoning those voters and actively courting Republicans, which seems like the worst way to address that.
If at this point in time you still honestly believe that both parties are the same, you either completely disengaged from politics or actively ignoring the evidence right in front of you. I cannot even begin how any campaign could reach those people.
Well they're both pot committed to Israel's genocide and the D's have adopted the rhetoric of the R's on some pretty stark issues like dismantling asylum law so it's quite a reasonable position to take.
I think if Democrats tried to appeal to nonvoters—who I sense are vastly left-wing—instead of inching rightward in the hope of appealing to Republicans, they could win in landslides that would overwhelm the power multipliers in our government like the Electoral College that favor regressives.
I agree with the broad strokes, although exit polling suggested that left-wing voters turned out for hillary more than the conservative democrats at the time. if anything, the dems are making reluctant voters into nonvoters
and I sure as hell am not voting for republicans in any form, ever
It's really infuriating to see Democrats court endorsements from the Cheneys and promise Republicans appointments to a Presidential advisory board and vow to be even worse about immigration and police funding than Republicans while liberals scold nonvoters for saying the parties are too similar.
"I will make sure Medicare can pay family members to provide at home health care."
"I will work to codify Roe."
"I will introduce a 25k tax credit for new small businesses"
There's 3, what more do you want, if you accept that there won't be a shift on Gaza?
It would be similar to what happened with Milei: there was a spectacular failiure at informing the public, so a ton of people got scammed. Be it out of spite or because they didn't know better. Along with the racism and hatred, there's clearly a bottleneck of information.
