When you stop a cat from doing something bad and they’re like, “Oh you seem to have paused my action. Worry not, I will continue my quest if I could just squuueeeze by you.”

Not so far off true.
Cats are smart enough to learn, but they're also very much not social creatures like dogs, they don't know what you want, only what they want.
When you punish a cat you teach it "if I push this specific vase of flowers on the floor when the human is around I get punished"
People who don't have cats: You let your cats on the kitchen counter?!?
Me: No, I've simply accepted I have no control in the matter. I can't be here 24/7, therefore they're getting on the counter at some point. I don't "let" them do it, I just haven't taught them to lie to me.
My cat was undeterred no matter how hard I tried. I even had to change my faucet to one he couldn’t turn on. I had water running all day while at work. I had to lock him from the bathrooms because he would turn the tub on!
If they weren't so cute and lovable lol. My favorite is seeing owners tell cats not to do something (e.g. knock a cup off a table) and the cat just stares them down and slowly does it anyway 😂

*gets yelled at or punished*
Cat: These are two separate and unrelated events. So anyway back to what I was doing.

They are never amused and the looks they give are ice cold
