Why comics? I think some of us have a unique brain chemistry: We see that combination of words and pictures, a chemical substance gets activated in our brains, and we're captivated for the rest of our lives by this extraordinary art form.

That chemical substance can be diluted due to not leaving your open comics around for the kids to get into. The new generations (since Spawn/X-Men) bag and board them and hide them away from readers. Not helping the hobby at all.
+ price and lack of retail prescence outside of comic stores.
I actually found out that it’s possible as well for the brain to be wired in such a way that you get more from still images than moving ones. Likely why learning anything from video is near impossible for me but I can sit there and read page after page of comics for hours without blinking
Anyone can combine words and pictures. I've read a lot of mediocre comics.
However, only talent of great creators can make people fascinated by an art form .
Great creators in comics or cinema are capable of igniting a person's imagination or heart and making them passionate about it for a lifetime.
It boggles my mind that some people just can't/don't get them. I've read them since before I could actually read, and I can't imagine not having them in my life.
Since I was a kid I've always used my imagination to turn the comics I'm reading into a cartoon or mini movie. Because of that, I tend to read a 22 page story a little slower than most.
One of my favorite books is Understanding Comics. I was like "Yes, of course!", all the way thru it.
