Absolutely - it's a truly levelling experience being able to undertake research far from a library/archive. And many of us have come to rely on remote research (as we've seen from the Bodleian Folk Archives!) I think there's a discussion to be had about funding and 'future-proofing' such resources.

Agree. Yet to find an example of a library (or other GLAM) that has a collection strategy or policy that states this outright. Most collection statements could've been written 40 years ago with "digital" sprinkled through, still very traditional format centric.

I realise that this is an adjacent topic at best, but during the first DJT presidency, whenever he deleted tweets, all I could think of was whether this was even permissible under the Presidential Records Act.

Most ppl don't think about archives/ preservation, let alone digital preservation, but there is so much that is digital and not preserved. The 'hyper' ephemeral that is deleted before it can be retained. Plus having to ensure the digital can be accessed in the future - where's the funding for that?

The opportunity is enormous, and the cost of not doing so is high, but not factored into any of our current models. As I will say later we are doing the science of the second quarter of the 21st century with the budget model of the 1990s.
