These early career researchers are our best and brightest. We should be protecting them at all costs. 🧪 #AcademicSky

Need a timeline cleanse? Want to watch some lava? So lucky to see the latest eruption episode from Kīlauea. 🌋🧪🌎

I fear that, especially now, scientists getting off Twitter where we can engage with the general public and instead siloing ourselves here is a very big mistake. We need to share what we do and why it's important with the broadest possible audience.

I think the biggest lie being told right now is that one of the wealthiest countries in the world cannot afford to invest in science, education, and the environment.

I escaped poverty because I am a scientist. And I am a scientist because of the National Science Foundation. A 🧵:

Another tough day for science. 🧪 #AcademicSky

This is incredibly frustrating and sad.

NEW: NSF confirmed that they fired 168 employees today, out of their staff of ~1,500 feds. This includes some people who'd finished their 1-year probationary periods, which were extended to 2-years last month without explanation. More to come.

Have you ever seen a group of banded mongooses (Mungos mungo)? These cool animals have a complex social structure and use synchronized breeding & cooperative parenting to increase offspring survival. Their social groups are on average made up of 20 individuals, but can be as large as 75! 🧪🦊🌍

Was excited to share my thoughts about this record of a spotted hyena in Egypt, 300 miles north of the nearest known spottie population! Though the hyena met an untimely end, this record shows how much more data collection is needed in this region.🍪🧪🌍 @nytimes.com www.nytimes.com/2025/01/31/s...

When anyone, anywhere, can point to a published article from a predatory journal or even a preprint and say it backs their claims, we’re in real trouble. We desperately need to make “peer-reviewed” actually mean something again. 🧪 #AcademicSky #ScientificPublishing

Love to see these innovative uses of AI to assist with wildlife conservation! 🧪🌍🪶

👋🏻 I wanted to say hi and reintroduce myself to all of the new community building here. I'm David and I study the effects of changing landscapes on carnivore populations -- including hyenas, lions, fishers, & foxes. But now I'm doing something new. A 🧵 🧪 #AcademicSky #SciPub
