People say it isn't polite to discuss religion or politics. I have a Ph.D. in not being polite.

On a completely unrelated note, Kim Mulkey’s outfit is like when a character on a long-running TV show just fully leans in and becomes a caricature of themselves.

I guess losing to a 1 seed as a 9 seed is better than losing to a 6 seed as a 3 seed.

And if they say you don’t know ball or some other BS, tell them they don’t know society and power.

Also, if anyone ever tells you to stop complaining about the refs, ask them if they always think the cops are right. Their answer should tell you all you need to know about power and privilege.

And I know we joke all the time about the refs getting 💰, but it is actually more nefarious. It would make sense that if someone is bribing you, then you do what they want. But refs THINK they are upholding fair play and the rules, but they are just as susceptible to the biases in the system.

Meanwhile, Omier gets pushed down, and play on.

Great point. The system is so confusing we can’t tell whether factors are causes or outcomes or both.

And going back to basketball, people make excuses for things like the free throw discrepancy saying Duke is just better. If they are actually better, then they won’t need the advantages and their superior skills will shine through. But far too often, that is not what we see.

I also this a lot in education. Do I have students that perform better than others? Of course. But when we look into why, far too often it is due to factors like parents’ wealth and privilege that often go back generations.

And then you have the media and the status quo people saying the cindarellas should not complain and just be happy to be invited to the dance.

It also speaks to privilege and power in our society. No one would doubt that blue-bloods get more from the system as it currently stands. That is unless you are a blue-blood, in which you think everyone is just jealous of you and you “deserve” your privilege because you works for it.

I have said it a few times, but people who say “don’t blame the refs” give off big “just do what the police say and you won’t get hurt” vibes.
