I learned from her Patreon that Vi Hart has just deleted her 1.5M-subscriber YouTube channel. The worsening of YT’s policies for creators finally reached her breaking point. To help herd folks to her videos’ new home, here’s a link to an early favorite of mine. vimeo.com/showcase/116...

Exciting and practical house designs coming out of Scandinavia

I feel like I write something every time the DeepMind folks release a result that vaguely overlaps my field. Here's my attempt to put that 4x4 Matrix "algorithm" news from last week into bigger context: www.mapleprimes.com/posts/230205...

they should call it [prince symbol] max

People who follow me on Letterboxd will see that sometimes I do terrible things to myself, like how I just watched all the remakes and nominal sequels to Carrie over the last week

I just registered for The Los Angeles Invitational - I am currently in terrible shape but last year the Triple Scoop was the highlight of my cycling year - www.bikereg.com/the-los-ange...

You really can do a lot of things with a bachelor's degree in mathematics

Funny thing: I've discovered I do a weird kind of typo. People often think I'm using audio to text, but I never do. In just the last day I made a typo where I wrote "max" instead of "match" and "list" instead of "least." That is, I frequently make typos where I write out a sound-adjacent word.

Pro-tip to other multi-faith households out there: by judicious application of the icing, you can have both hot cross buns and hot pentacle buns this holiday weekend

It has been 0 Days since I've had to open a giant Russian tome in aid of fixing a bug in Maple (sadly a PDF, they wouldn't let me take the office copy from Waterloo when I moved to California)

💡 Did you know? POST-quantum cryptography is significantly more secure than GET-quantum cryptography, where all the quantum information is visible in the URL

Seeing lots of misinfo flying around on the left recently. Three different things on bluesky this morning that are either factually wrong or so utterly devoid of context that they might as well be. We're not immune to this, and it's important to read the article and check sources.

Apparently is Citizen Science Month so I got this badge for maintaining my CoCoRaHS precipitation gauge: dex.cocorahs.org/stations/CA-...

Ayliean MacDonald's #MathArtMarch Day 29: Unsolved In 2009, god-tier TSP researcher Bill Cook asked me to design the 100,000-city Mona Lisa TSP Challenge. Shortly after, Yuichi Nagata found a tour of length 5,757,191. Is it optimal? We don't know. But we do know that it's within 0.0019% of optimal!
