Calls from a colony of Little Terns at Kilcoole, Co. Wicklow. This colony holds approximately 40% of the entire Irish population and is expertly managed each year by Birdwatch Ireland volunteers. Amazing work. Listen to the energetic calls of our smallest tern with lovely surf sounds!

Starlings aren't our only mimics, in fact MANY passerines do it Listen to this Robin song with mimicry of Blue Tit at approx. 55s. Whilst not as frequent or accurate as some species, Robins do indeed include mimicry in their songs.

Battle of the Emperors. Last summer I was in a Hampshire wood observing Purple Emperors having territorial disputes. One decided an Emperor dragonfly was fair game - mistake! In an instant they tumbled to the ground where the butterfly was beheaded. A sad end for but fascinating to witness.
