Hey man! Super looking forward to your Top 10. Like you said, 2024 was a great year for music. It's one of the few years I've had a full Top 10 and strong opinions about each song on the list. Really psyched to hear your thoughts!

Like I said. The article turned my stomach. I don't think it's strong enough to read his statement on top of that.
Later.

Yes. Apply that across the board. Seriously, don't even make an exception for me. Oh I find the very idea of exploiting or abusing someone sick and f***ed up, but terrible people come in all forms and in every facade you can think of, even the most decent-seeming.
Always be on guard.

Yes, but in America, it is very much a "...but if this is wrong, then I don't WANT to be right!" kind of thing. 😉
But there's no justification for crappy store-bought bbq sauce. Sauce can be savory, smoky, peppery, even tangy. But if it's sugary-sweet, you f***ed up. Bad for meat, worse for pizza.

We're way overdue for a proper catch-up. You know how to reach me. I'm more misanthropic now, but no less eager to compare notes!

Granted I've only lived in Melbourne for a year so far, but I was pretty sure it was "billabong" or "snag"

I heard from a lot of former Florida natives who said they were shocked and grieving over what their state had become.
I think a lot of Americans will share that view soon, and the stuff I covered in Florida only scratches the surface of what the architects of Project 2025 have in store. /End

Poverty was rampant. Even when the rest of the U.S. was bouncing back, inflation was at a record high in Tampa. Salaries for full-time jobs went as low as $35,000 a year. There was also a home insurance crisis as insurers straight up left the state. 6/

Speaking of schools, one expelled a Palestinian kid whose mom posted about the Israel/Palestine conflict on her personal Instagram. One tried to fire a principal who let a trans student play volleyball. Another openly belittled Black students about their test scores. 5/

The censorship in schools was appalling. I covered efforts to ban books about civil rights, gender identity, or anything sex-adjacent. The state government approved school materials from PragerU to teach kids American history from a more right-wing perspective. 4/

The racism was blatant. Sheriffs called Black criminals as "gang-bangers". DeSantis called Black Lives Matter protesters "terrorists" who "burn down cities". He backing a school curriculum showing a positive side to slavery (the "useful" life skills slaves learned). 3/

The antivaxxers were crazy. The article I wrote that got me the most public hate was about rising COVID levels. DeSantis bashed mask or vaccine rules, and his surgeon general spread so much antivax B.S., YouTube briefly barred us from livestreaming their pressers. 2/

Shootings happened a lot, and a LOT of them were personal beefs gone bad: Domestic abuse, road rage, upset customers shooting store owners, fights where one guy left and came back with a gun, teens shooting at each other in public. It really WAS like the wild west. 1/

It's absolutely essential it be done seriously, earnestly, and with every bit of effort put into making it scary and plausible. Absolutely no self-aware camp or winking at the audience allowed.
I think that's the only way to do justice to the legend.

While this in itself isn't the reason, you might have some clue as to why I avoid my parents as well as possible.
My dad's also a Musk fanboy, but he's the only one who's said the overtly racist shit and claimed women "sleep their way to the top".

Yes. We must. I demand a creature horror film about drop bears. Ambitious enough for a theatrical release.
Make it happen!

This was absolutely clear to us, for years.
Your post about anger resonated with me because I've been soaking in rage and misanthropy for weeks. I'll never forgive my former fellow Americans for voting for him or not caring enough to stop him.
My baby beluga is all I have to feel hope for.

Again, misogyny ain't just a liberal/conservative split. Sad to say it, but firmly believe it.

Believe me, I saw liberals jump on any possible excuse to be anti-Hillary and justify not supporting Kamala. Also a good 90% of the comments I saw sneering at Amber Heard and/or sharing fake viral videos of her trial were from women whom I know weren't conservative. Ditto for Blake Lively.

My wife was fortunate enough to avoid actual assault, but she had one scary encounter and threats of violence from men.

You know what did it for me? Children's books.
I knew I'd have to read my baby many of the same ones over and over again, so I picked ones I knew and liked: Sendak, Seuss, Lobel, Wise Brown/Hurd, etc.
Then I read Alice in Wonderland & some Roald Dahl. Definitely ready to get some new reads in.
