Marketing an OS as Linux is like marketing an engine instead of the car. BMW make the same engines for the 7 Series, 8 Series, and various rolls Royce models. Go figure. Package me a distro that helps me work better than the other guy, and a car that makes me feel a million dollars.

Games are the growing use case because steam. All it’ll take is for someone to say “We have a new way for you to do your work, without bla blah blah, ads, more ads, bla bla, and sell it on that basis without mentioning Linux and boom. You will have people using it in droves.

You’re dam fucking right it will be, through protest by hook and crook we’ll all push to get these racist orange-loving money-worshipping bastards back out of the oh. Tha’that’s -not what they -were going for?

Exactly. They’re saying it’s ’their Linux based operating system’. It’s subtle, but different. Normal users think about installing steam os, not Linux. That’s why Ubuntu was a leader in the beginning too, and why mint is leading now among new adopters. If anything, Linux is a philosophy and kernel.

Musk has the power, the data and the money to mount a coup with a huge base behind him, plus enough tech and insider hackers in doge to smooth the path.
This might look fun right now, but this will not end well for anyone.

All that data and they still can’t unlock the phone securely for people with nystagmus. Plus, their accessibility is in the bin at this point. I’m daily driving Linux now, a manually assembled arch setup on dev machines, and it’s more reliable than the $1Ts backed support driven garbage they ship.

Like how many users would Debian pull in if they said:
“Hate constant updates that break your workflow? Security is important but do you really need every new feature going? Well here at Debian you can have the same look for two decades, stay safe online, have your cake and eat it too.”

Basically they all need to realise their projects aren’t Linux as such, they’re their own thing. Steam doesn’t market SteamOS as arch, same with chromeOS or android. Then the discussion is less about ‘the pizza’ idea, and more about ‘their pizza’ idea. What do they do different that matters?

Was that the supposed trade secrets you spilled, that actually turned out to be massively invasive practices with gobbler?

Meh, I keep saying this but if you were born blind you’d do the same. Anyone would. It’s just exhausting and running a business I do not have time to be constantly filming chess, as sick as that would be. I just wish they’d care. But if not I’ll just build a competitor that does.

Note Apple’s attempt to say they haven’t a clue what social accounts you have, but how the heck is that relevant?

See this is what I mean. If we had decent marketing, we’d all know to pick the desktop environment first to narrow down the selection. The distribution rarely if ever matters.

Please do, I wish Linux had better marketing and this whole distros thing is way too complicated. You get one from the menu or you build your own with arch.

I really cannot get my head around anti-systemd opinions. To me linux is like pizza, kernel=bread, systemd=sauce, packages on top is the toppings. There’s gonna be 1% of places that nail a non-tomato sauce, but you know where you’re safest. Systemd is exactly the same imo.

Should have filmed the game I lost tonight. Lost a pawn as black in a Sicilian because I forgot where white’s knight was. Then it just went down hill from there. Otb they wouldn’t have stood a chance.

Can you add videos to Reddit posts? If so I’ll just film myself doing some puzzles or something or playing a match, show > tell
Also lichess iOS app is completely broken, so no 2am matches in bed.

Which is why I’m not chasing them for money.

Appreciate the repost very much but they won’t. They don’t care. They are responsible for so much of my chess related self-loathing, a constant reminder that I am inferior, and they haven’t listened which compounds that belief. They could refine my entire subscription and it wouldn’t be enough.

What’s the drop in the uk?

I fully expect nothing to be done by the way, so I’ll just keep bringing up @chess.com as a great example of an app that’s usable, but not accessible, doesn’t care, but talks a good talk. If by some miracle they begin taking #a11y seriously before someone takes them to court, I’ll stop of course.

It could be argued social media is a factor, but education is power. If you’re well educated, you can make up your own mind. You can decide what’s important for yourself, and you can sort others’ arguments to make your own decisions. Without a good education, people follow the sweetest voice.

Then why do other countries, which have both smartphones and access to social media, still have more power in their population than present day America?
comment in response to

The crazy thing is America as a collective only started losing power at the population level when the adult literacy rate dropped below the half way mark. 54% of Americans are literate *below* the level expected in the 6th grade.

How old are you? Yeah that’s relevant, happy to take a rough range, and do you know if the fund was just invested in the uk or Europe / one specific area, or whether it was a global fund?
