20 years ago, the LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP) stack kind of revolutionized how websites were built. I sometimes feel like Godot/Blender/Krita does something similar for gamedev, but "GBK" doesn't quite have the same ring as "LAMP". Wait a sec... Should it be called "KGB" dev??😂😬

This is probably just me finally getting the memo, but if you use collections in Blender to create a "directory tree" of different characters/objects, viewing them as needed, its much easier to keep everything scaled and oriented consistently🤯 #blender #blenderNewbieAmI

Elevation allows for full camera rotation and I noticed watching others play that they got disoriented about where the base was - so I'm trying out an unobtrusive "compass" that points back to the base when the base is outside the visual range. #godot #solodev #gamedev

I do a lot of my display with Godot's RenderingServer for performance, but you have to do a good job at cleaning up instances otherwise you're left with "floating artifacts" from previous scene instantiations - in this case, enemy shots left over from the last battle. Lets look at notifications.🧵

The concept of a "budget" is important to Tower Defense games - without budget constraints, everyone would just "level up" to the top tier towers and win every match. Castle turrets are cheapest, magical towers more, healing towers most expensive. #towerDefense

Spent the week wiring up displays for high scores and handling preferences (including the mechanics for actually *saving* them, refreshing them on app start and making preferences actually do the settings). #godot #towerDefense #solodev #gameDev

In case someone else finds this useful: I had a recurring need to generate a random number within a range, but as a positive or negative number. For example, any float between 3 and 5 or -3 and -5, but nothing between -3 and 3. So I created a function called "donutRandom" (for the empty middle).
