I never thought I'd say this, but for the country to really come together as one, the Philadelphia Eagles must win the Superbowl.

Among the many avenues Democrats need to be pushing *now* is: Trump, Musk, and their Republican enablers just compromised the personal and financial info of every American. This isn't hyperbole; it already happened. They broke all the cybersecurity protocols and are concealing what they're doing.

Spiegel reports that Musk now also has access to sensitive data of competitors with regard to their financial dealings with the government.

Aides to Elon Musk charged with running the government's human resources agency have locked career civil servants out of computer systems that contain the personal data of millions of federal employees.   "We have no visibility into what they are doing." www.reuters.com/world/us/mus...

Seth Masket suggests something I was thinking about as well; Musk is a civilian illegally interfering with government operations. the DC Metro police should arrest him. smotus.substack.com/p/what-might...

Dear Democrats: You can't defeat the threat to democracy by becoming the threat to democracy.

Today is a great day to start or get back into 99% Invisible. It's a show about the objects and systems we design and what these things say about us and our values. Start with any episode! Jump around! Pick one about something you're into. Find one about something you're not 99percentinvisible.org

Worth underscoring. The right has built a powerful communications apparatus driven by politics, emotion and entertainment that sustained unpopular ideas for decades, working them into the party’s agenda and ultimately state and federal law.

Tesla Cybertrucks are being mistaken for trash dumpsters by raccoons, and they’re getting thrashed as a result. Honest mistake. 🤣

One thing I think people talking about the threat of authoritarian creep have gotten, if not exactly wrong, not quite right either is to frame discussion in terms of various European precedents. Those are relevant to be sure, but we also have an American precedent - namely the South before 1965.

1. Donald Trump nominated an alleged statutory rapist and sex trafficker to be attorney general. He picked a Russian asset to be director of national intelligence. He chose a religious fanatic and Kremlin stooge to be secretary of defense.

🚨 Columbus, OH🚨 The Nazis currently marching through Columbus, Ohio are led by former Blood Tribe/GDL member Anthony Altick, aka Combat Carl. He murdered a black man in 2015. Video from FB vis @rooster.info Limited information at this time.

Want to reassure everyone how alone we are NOT. If the numbers are right, voter turnout was only 65%, meaning that Trump's total is only 33% of eligible voters. Account for mass voter suppression, which is no conspiracy - it is FACT - and you've got much less than 1/3 of the country behind him.

Sunday reading: What awaits us in a second Trump presidency? A much more extreme rightwing regime that is vastly better prepared and will be operating under conditions that are significantly more favorable to its political cause. I wrote about what’s different than in 2016/17. This week’s piece:
