(... which is more than Reform, by the way)

“We’re losing voters to the Greens guys, what should we do?”

This is a very fair criticism of the prime minister from @samfr.bsky.social and therefore really quite devastating open.substack.com/pub/samf/p/t...

This puts shit into perspective.

Echoes of 2021, when Putin wrote an article claiming that Ukraine was part of Russia.

can nothing be protected from the surge of generative ai? 🫠

There is no DEI in Britain, you frog-faced fuck. We have legally-binding equality legislation.

Don't let endless election reporting distract from news that Trump is pulling the US out of the Russia-Ukraine peace talks... ...AFTER the minerals deal was signed. Is it really in the UK's interests to keep taking Trump's America at its word? www.standard.co.uk/news/world/u...

Mostly finished with the last assignment for the semester, just waiting for others in my group to review and then we can submit it. I am so tired. I did do this to myself however.

It’s not quite “first of its kind,” as students of colonialism will know. www.theguardian.com/world/live/2...

babe wake up another major report showing corporate capture of AI regulation just dropped

I guess the death of the Duolingo Owl was a sign that the company would replace linguists with AI. We just did not know how to read the sign at the time. Shame. Shame. Shame.

Tony Blair was right about several things in the 1990s. He was also - famously - very, very wrong about many much bigger things. It established an inglorious pattern that continues to this day. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

🧵In March I wrote about how Trump's attacks on science & universities followed the authoritarian playbook & set out Qs as warning signs for escalation. 🚨 THESE ARE NOW HAPPENING This 🧵is on how those warning sign Qs have been realised full post: christinapagel.substack.com/p/warning-si... 1/15

Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City as #DoctorWho: a thread. Carrie Bradshaw as the First Doctor

Uuuugh makes me want to reconsider things personally, hope it's just diplomacy speak and the org stands strong against it.

are we sure this wasn't just that someone overheard two scientists talking about going for dim sum and then it just fucking spiralled

as a person who knows that banishing evil spirits by swearing at them is a common thing in multiple Slavic traditions, i am DELIGHTED by this tip

Simply add a swear word and the AI slop doesn't come up 👍

This is what AI bloat is right now. Some interfering bastard thing jumping into your document to offer help you don't need towards a purpose it'll never understand. Jumped up paperclip cunt.

Movie you’ve watched more than six times using gifs. (“Hard mode” no Star Wars, Star Trek, or LOTR)

Achievement unlocked (they finally arrived to my local Lidl!)

This is a terrible terrible destructive decision. These sorts of long running research programmes take decades to build and their insights accumulate over decades too - the longer they run, the more valuable they become. This is knowledge vandalism. Nothing new and shiny can replace it.

I'm on holiday this week and don't plan to waste it checking for every latest Kremlin lie or piece of White House spin. But a few things: 🧵

I feel increasingly disconnected from the party I voted for and had such high hopes for. Did we give them a mandate to cos-play Reform-lite? I want them to lead and argue for their vision instead of chasing polls. Oh and charge me more income tax instead of penalising kids & disabled people

But these affirmations ring hollow as commission seems to already be bending" www.foreignaffairs.com/europe/europ...

what a fucking cop out. laws can be changed, as they have done on so many other civil rights issues over the decades. The supreme court judgement was far narrower than the govt is making out and hiding behind.

Pretending that something is “controversial” when it isn’t is a communication tactic used by bad faith actors to shut down debate. Climate science is often presented as controversial, where mostly it’s just physics.

The rhyme of history

So what time is the Conclave Watchalong? Or do we have do “The Two Popes” first?

In fairness, who could have predicted that the alcoholic, violent, chauvinist, walking middle-age crisis, bin-fire of a frat guy, with absolutely zero experience of running any sort of organisation would turn out to be a bad choice? No, wait. Everyone. Everyone predicted it.

The days of Google Docs are ending; we enter the age of Docs, made by France's Interministerial Directorate for Digital Affairs and Germany's Center for Digital Sovereignty of Public Administration. We need more governments to collaborate on public software projects to achieve digital sovereignty.

if there’s such thing as a good pope, francis came closest to showing what it might look like incredible that one of his final actions was sending his second in command to scold jd vance

Dear American socials British socials did EVERY Pope/JD Vance joke you are planning to do when the Queen died two days after seeing Liz Truss*. So, don't even. Thanks *I realise you may not know that Liz Truss was briefly UK Prime Minister.

how about we just kill capitalism before it takes our climate with it?

⚡️Ukraine proposes extending truce beyond Easter Sunday. "Thirty hours is enough for headlines, but not for real confidence-building measures," President Volodymyr Zelensky said. "Thirty days can give peace a chance."

Chief among the corrosive bits of rhetoric that have taken root and need urgently to be challenged is the remarkable belief that "pulling up the drawbridge for a little bit" for working age migrants will result in MORE money available for pensioners. HOW? FROM WHERE? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
