They spent the entire campaign screaming from the rooftops that they were gonna pick up exactly where they left off in 2020, and the entire world spent that same span of time convincing itself it was gonna be 2016 again

Maybe a regulatory change wiped out a niche? Like, it hasn't happened, but if whatever barriers to car companies doing direct to consumer sales exist were taken away (with no phase out), car dealership professionals would be in this position

Quality education is a personnel-intensive, time-intensive, low tech project. It involves hours in the classroom, hours reading, hours meeting with students, hours writing or working in the lab. Time- & personnel-intensive, non-sexy stuff. It's been that way for centuries & will remain so.

The fact that society does not seem to any longer value investing in education, at any level of it from K-Ph.D., does not mean that what makes for high quality teaching & learning has changed. It just means we're lazy & greedy, as a society, & don't want to invest in things or do hard work anymore.

Means its easy for them to remember they have a profession that works to very different standards. And making a living on Takes is imo slightly different than commentary or public intellectualism - like, Krugman and Ganz, Takes doesn't seem like the right word for what they write
