something i've been sitting with for a few months is that the reason we shouldn't see classic-style dyson spheres isn't because they'd be hard to see, or because no aliens, but because blocking the solar wind collapses the heliosphere and it would just get obliterated by interstellar media.

if i were pope francis, i would simply make jack reacher a cardinal in pectore

we don't talk enough about how john waite's missing you is not just one of the greatest songs of all time, but a song that includes elements of long distance telephony and telegraphy in both the lyrics and in specific acoustic effects.

sorry, ESA, but three separate observations of 2.4 3.1 and 0.8 are not a trend. three data points are a weak [reductive] inference of a pattern. from this, a trend might be subsequently inferred if the data supports it. data is plural here. this is properly classified as a clownward trend.

sorry but this is ridiculous to read from a public-facing person who has said some incredibly inappropriate shit, and maneuvered behind the scenes to punish people for speaking out about it.

my beef with this article is that there's no discussion of why this is happening, and this is explicable from a basic-ish methodology perspective. the problem with testing long covid treatments is twofold. it's preferable to study treatment effects on the least granular control group possible. ⅙
