May Day ralliers from MacArthur Park are now in downtown Los Angeles. Still a large crowd of hundreds. Chanting pro-labor and pro-police abolitionist slogans.

14 members of SEIU were arrested at the downtown Los Angeles rally. They were cited with 80.02 LAMC, “disobeying a police officer,” and released. The crowd alternated between boos for the arrests and cheers for the arrestees.

Dispersal order called by LAPD the dozen on about a dozen SEIU Local 721 strikers who are sitting near the 110 freeway entrance ahead of a march, and appear to be planning for arrest. Chanting “Animo!” and “si se puede”

SEIU strike march is on 5th and Figueroa near the 110 entrance in DTLA. Many of them linking arms. Uniformed personnel from the California Highway Patrol and LAPD just ahead of them.

A few others and I wrote for @lcrw.bsky.social regarding the attacks on UCLA’s encampment. Nearly a year afterward, I can say that it’s still my opinion the rise in violence was a pretty foreseeable result of daily escalation at the campus. leftcoastrightwatch.org/articles/pre...

The other charge is for Matthew Katz, who is charged with PC 242, PC 236, and PC 148(a)(1) PC 236 is a false imprisonment charge. It’s a “waffler,” or a charge that can be either a felony or misdemeanor. PC 148(a)(1) is a misdemeanor obstruction charge.

Matt Gaetz just finished his speech and is on his way out. Asked him what his plans were after the allegations but no response.

Competing rallies in Beverly Hills as well, though the numbers are flipped. About 125 Walk Away ralliers and about 10 counter protesters separated by a series of temporary fences.
comment in response to post
Most of the counter protesters appear to be staying within West Hollywood now; the Walk Away ralliers are continuing into Beverly Hills. There’s a small pocket of counter protesters continuing behind.

The Walk Away ralliers are now walking to their second location in Beverly Hills. Counter protesters are walking behind them shouting. I’ve seen a few pushed here and there.

Currently, Straka’s group in West Hollywood are in front of a Chase Bank on Robertson. They are surrounded on three sides.

There’s also a large number of sheriffs stationed about a block away at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood who are here to respond to the protest.

Both sides are beginning to increase in number for the rally and counter protest. A few Los Angeles County Sheriffs stationed nearby.

I told him telling me to delete photos is a surefire way to make sure the photos will be released

About six motorcycles have parked their vehicles outside of the HaHa Club where Gavin McInnes is reportedly performing. Riders wearing insignia of Vagos Motorcycle Club. One man threatened me unless I deleted photos. He’s the one making gestures with his hands.

Briefly, protesters of the Gavin McInnes show had gotten into the front area just ahead of the door which was closed. Several people attempted to go inside, there was a brief fracas. Man has been on the phone ever since; I’m told there’s been a gun threat but can’t confirm. Protesters leaving.

I know the words “both sides,” has some real bad connotations in journalist circles but I can report that both sides have been wearing Burger King crowns throughout.

One man entering the Gavin McInnes headlined show lunged a hand towards the crowd protesting it. Was punched in the side of the head, looks slightly dazed and was walked inside to the HaHa Comedy Club.

A group of about a dozen protesters have arrived with bullhorns, noisemakers, drums, etc. one man in a proud boy colors has been in front of the door wearing a Burger King crown. Several people wearing PB colors have walked in, the crowd is yelling “you’re a Nazi” at them

McInnes is a co founder of Vice as well as militant far right group the Proud Boys. A comedian working the door confirmed that McInnes will be performing today, though they’ve been quite tight lipped since I said hello.

The system has 142 different scenarios. Some of the commissioners have run through at least several trainings themselves; some discussion of Vice President virtually assisting in apprehending a suspect that virtually hit an officer with a baseball bat.

Previous post needed a little more background. LAPD currently runs a 5,000 square foot virtual reality training system within their gymnasium. They are discussing a more permanent home. The system was started with a $1.6 million grant from the Los Angeles Police Foundation.

Regarding Yong Yang, the man who was shot by LAPD officers in the midst of a mental health crisis: Yesterday would have been his birthday. His mother, father, and brother spoke about him at the commission meeting today. The commission will discuss his case in closed meeting today.
comment in response to post
A virtual reality training program for LAPD officers is being considered, which would be “arena-sized,” and located in the gymnasium at the LA Police Academy.
