This is now basically an unwearable shirt. (Btw, I bought this looong before even Dogecoin was a thing)

It hurts my heart that poor Kabosu is linked with fascism. It's also just really strange and ... stupid? I miss when memes were silly and that was pretty much it.

Just watching the news and this happens

I screen capped this on inauguration day. Probably a safe bet to just post this everyday going forward.

As a Canadian who works in a grocery store, I can assure you the Buy Canadian energy is real (and especially Not Buying American). I've always tried to support local, independent business over corporations. I'm happy to see it and I hope we keep it up. No need to stop because of the pause.

Forward-Thinking CEO Hoping Company Can Capture New Audience By Making Product Worse In Every Conceivable Way theonion.com/forward...

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA gaaaaasp AHAHAHAHAHAHA oh my God say it ain't so, imagine an AI company stealing intellectual property.

As someone who's been following crypto for a while (almost entirely for entertainment purposes) I find it wild that there is now a sitting US president with his own scam meme coins. And with everything else going on, I'm not sure all that many people even care.

ChatGPT is down? Huh. Crazy how that doesn't affect my life in literally any way at all

Two of my interests have converged. Well I guess I *have* to check it out now.

do you ever use a word and then stop and go look it up and read the definition, like damn that actually is the perfect word choice, well done. lol me, using persnickety in an email just now.

Celebrating the launch of THE BOY I LOVE, the stunning new YA from @whusseyauthor.bsky.social at London’s iconic Gay’s the Word bookshop last night. Being with good people helps, and the evening was a tonic in these troubled times. And the book is fabulous. Please get yourself a copy. 💛

The bulk of media coverage today…

Rest in piss

I do not think society takes the effects of technology - inside and outside of social media - very seriously at all, despite the fact that it's pervasive in almost everything we do www.wheresyoured.at/never-forgiv...

Since 1990, EFF has defended your digital privacy and free speech rights in the courts, through activism, and by making open source privacy tools. And that’s funded entirely by donations. You can support this important work today:

Genius detectives in fiction change authors and actors so often because without regular resets, they start figuring out they're fictional. It was believed killing them off in a dramatic final case would suspend the process, but this has proven unreliable, as Arthur Conan Doyle learned to his regret.

The reason teens are uncultured dipshits is they grew up without this lil guy.

Quick heads up for anyone interested in checking out some serialised fiction, this is the time to subscribe! A lot of them are starting very soon (Les Mis Letters, Jan 1), or just did (Whale Weekly, Nov 22), so there's not too much to catch up on. Good luck on your reading goals, and happy New Year!

I have always loved public libraries, but having young children has exponentially increased my gratitude and sense of indebtedness to them. Our local library is such a huge part of our lives. The books, the programming, the very intentionally curated kids’ section. It’s all such a gift.

I love shimmery inks so much.

How Stars are made

My Indigenous futurist novel, As Many Ships As Stars, a science fiction retelling of the oral history of how the Quahadi band of Comanches acquired horses, will be available from Android Press October 8th.

Historians (esp medieval historians) this is a heads up 🧵 for work that’s going to be released in the next few weeks—my late mother-in-law, Treasa McKernan’s magnum opus, ‘From Out of Her Bounds’ a study of medieval women’s lives thru an unusual lens (keep reading)—buckle up this is a long story. 1/

Today's the day: my cozy YA horrormance novel is officially out! If you like fun horror, maybe give it a go--it's available in hardcover, audiobook, and digital (and a large print paperback, but I'm not a fan of this edition) wherever & everywhere. Woohoo! #Books #Philadelphia #Horror #YAlit

This is today! #kidlit

ok so you've seen the cover, would you now like to read an excerpt from my next book in [checks notes] [checks notes again] ... Cosmopolitan magazine www.cosmopolitan.com/entertainmen...

Pssst--hey! Everybody read this so you can get excited about the upcoming sequel with me! 👀

The younger child bequeathed this to me near the end of last school year, it is one of my most precious treasures.

Nice. I absolutely loved this book.

The current read (which I'm about a third of the way through): Chaucer's Tale: 1386 and the Road to Canterbury. I picked it up out of interest in Chaucer himself, and the time period. I was expecting more historical fiction, but so far, it reads more like a snippet of a biography.

every time one of you nerds makes a lofty statement about not enjoying art that’s “for children” I think of this passage from C.S. Lewis’ An Experiment in Criticism

This book means so much to me - it was my way of dealing with my dad’s death and of also exploring my experiences of childhood OCD. It was also a way to celebrate all the things I loved growing up like Hocus Pocus, Buffy, Scream, Scooby Doo, Jurassic Park, Chronicles of Narnia, and Goosebumps! 💙📚

Blue Birch Woods no.1 - Jef Bourgeau.

The year is 2024. Chuck Tingle has emerged as genuinely one of the finest and most insightful authors of the era. Meanwhile, AP headlines read like: Pounded in the Couch by Domald Tromp's Creepy Little Weirdo.

really glad that at some point I fully internalized that it was fine to stop reading a book for any reason whatsoever, no matter how critically well-regarded or "good" it is. vibes are off! life's too short! too many books out there!
