Instead of a way of dividing the world into "two kinds of people" it's a reminder that every person has their own story, and an orbit of characters that are important to them. We are the outsiders and the background noise to them as much as they are to us. 3/3

- when he shows up in Renn Faire garb and plays his filk songs at a wedding, the conventional relatives who are baffled by him are NPCs. But to a public defender, spending their days fighting for justice in court, this weird dude performing at their cousin's wedding is the NPC. 2/3

There may not be much that most of us can do about the federal-level chaos that is happening right now, but the tragedy of Grafton, NH reminds us that there is still a lot we can do locally. That our close communities are able to be influenced, hopefully for the better.

It puts the target of the abuse in an awkward position where, even though we know what is going on, we can't say anything or react publicly because it will escalate the situation, and honestly make us look crazy to an outside observer.

Yes! I was lucky enough to see a Parrish exhibit at the Telfair when I was in college. Absolutely breathtaking in person.

Plz understand that the wife part is a rueful joke (unless...?) because I am a wife and that's part of why I have so much on my plate all the time 🤪
