Inquiring minds (OK, me) want to know: What were the most expensive cars we saw? Thread:

We took 100+ hours of footage of Lexington Ave in Manhattan, capturing some 75,000 vehicles before and after congestion pricing started, and found the drop in vehicles appears to be coming entirely from fewer personal cars. Also no change in avg car value. Congestion pricing is working (for now).

I have been listening to the back catalogue of the In Our Time podcast and in 2000 they did an episode on climate change. The expert panel said well this could be very bad but fortunately there's plenty of time to do something about it and humans are too smart to just ignore something this serious.

The thing that has always annoyed me, personally, about the CP environmental review nonsense is you're not building anything new or doing anything permanent. Just turn the cameras on and see what happens. This is a very easy experiment to run with completely reversible outcomes.

Really needs to be underscored how the judges deciding the fate of congestion pricing are not experts on environmental review laws, the environment, transportation, pollution, or anything remotely relevant. The judge currently pontificating in chambers is a commercial and trade expert.

No matter what happens with congestion pricing, my hope for 2025 is a single NYC politician fights as hard for a new live-saving protected bike lane as NJ politicians are fighting to stop a sub-$10 toll for driving into one of the most congested traffic areas in the world.
