It’s the betrayals that suck more than anything! We are hard enough to take blows otherwise…

The Indians aren’t here yet. Bluesky needs to get them to make up some more numbers!

This reminds me of when they teach you 180 rule and then next day show you Godard! And gently say, “First learn the rules, then break it.”

These financiers are truly the Gods for a lot of independent filmmakers who, unlike Europe, do not have to wait for years between films to get state funding. Releasing Indies is still a challenge like anywhere else but atleast you are getting the films made and if lucky it ends up helping everyone.

However, there’s a positive aspect too that makes India better compared to a lot of other European countries and even Hollywood if you are an indie filmmaker. There is a lot of passion for cinema, so we have a large mass of independent funders from real estate, jewellers who “want to make a picture”

To give you an example a makeup man or a gym trainer of a big star makes more money per day than the DOP or even sometimes the director! Needless to say, there is hardly any money left for the production. The independent films that you see breakout (eg. ALL WE IMAGINE AS LIGHT) are despite the system

It’s a completely star driven industry, esp at the top. Most films are overpriced because the star salaries are way too high - on par with Hollywood even if the grosses are not even 1/10th. Alongwith the star price, it’s his/her entourage fees that kills the producers.

First drafts almost always suck. Which is why patience was invented.

I wish I could find the Marty McFly gif where he says - “Hey I’ve seen this! It’s a classic!” 😃
