Chilling.

Not to pile on, but every 'c' in 'Pacific Ocean' is pronounced differently.

Sure, eggs are expensive but Trump has made stocks affordable for everyone.

one great mystery of our age is how the only way to motivate rich people to work is to give them loads of money for no reason but the only way to motivate poor people to work is to take away loads of their money for no reason

I feel every word of this piece. Thank you to Royal Hansen for sharing his families experience of the unimaginable — that is Long Covid. “There is so much more to be done” #LongCovidKids #LongCovid #LongCovidAwareness

I hope America is as lucky as the delta jet - everyone survives but the right wing explodes

We URGENTLY need to provide help to the most severely affected with #LongCovid and #ME In September 2024 on World Patient Patient Safety Day, we wrote to The Secretary of State for Health, a letter signed by >250 healthcare professionals stating ‘Doing nothing is NOT safe’.

Any countries whose scientific research funding bodies are NOT currently under siege by their own national leadership would do very well announcing investments in bringing in foreign research talent right now

Well the award for most cowardly, boot-lickingest academic society has squarely gone to the American Society of Microbiology, who has taken down features of various non-white scientists. Absolutely pathetic behavior. Those articles are now coming up as “under review”. Truly sickening cowardice here.

It is simply not enough for universities to say, “Our grants & research offices are looking into how research will be affected by the latest directive.” University leaders must actively and very publicly make the case for the kind of work many of us do. The silence on this front is deafening.

For dinner I'm having a flatbread filled with millipede meat paste. I call it the pitta pâté of tiny feet.

Let me give a concrete example of the importance of applications with high risk-high reward as well as the role of NIH staff in taking risks. Decades ago, a physical chemist proposed ideas about doing mass spectrometry on proteins (when this was deemed probably impossible). 1/n

And these advances have helped more than just the field of proteomics, many of the advances in MS-based metabolomics and glycomics have built upon this NIH funded work.

We should be throwing up lab space in places like Cambridge and Tatton Park at a vast rate. Biggest opportunity to recruit scientific talent since the 1930s.

Done. 31 days, 176km walking/running for the December Daily Dash for Sue Ryder Hospices - thanks so much for the support which truly got my feet out the door on the stormy nights! 💙 @sueryder.bsky.social #decemberdailydash www.decemberdailydash.com/fundraising/...

It still astonishes me that more people in politics and our media pretend to be concerned about kids having missed school than kids having been killed or sickened by Covid.

New Christmas lights just went up in Clacton. (Farage is still the MP who makes most money from second jobs. By a long way.)

If we did a fraction of the research into our candidates for elected office as we did for our fantasy football teams, we would have the government we desperately need.

Pop FACT: Due to its unusual pricing policy, Club Tropicana closed within weeks of opening.

78km walking/running so far this month - just about halfway. Thanks so much for your support for Sue Ryder Hospices - it’s keeping me going on the dark rainy nights! 🧡💙 @sueryder.bsky.social #decemberdailydash www.decemberdailydash.com/fundraising/...

I’ve managed a week of running/walking every day in December for Sue Ryder Hospices. Feel free to donate to force me to keep going…💙🧡 December Daily Dash 2024 - www.decemberdailydash.com/fundraising/...

Here’s something childish to raise the tone here

Proud to have contributed to developing this policy alongside @sunny-rae1.bsky.social and @profstevegriffin.bsky.social. All we ask for is measured, sensible public health policy and protecting the most vulnerable in society.

These days it seems the only things you can monger are fear and war, and as a society I think we ought to bring back mongering cheese and fish, at least.
