If we did a fraction of the research into our candidates for elected office as we did for our fantasy football teams, we would have the government we desperately need.

They don’t have the mental wherewithal for it. It has to start from childhood. The education system is trash in the US. Children are neglected. No one cares about them, so they grow up to be in survival mode. They are incapable of discernment and vote for the bully in the playground.
There’s an idea: fantasy politics. I bet that if someone started it and set it up like fantasy football people would actually do this and who cares if it costs them money or they’re gambling about it, if it gets us going in the right direction I’m here for it.
Americans put so much attention toward wealthy sports and celebrity figures, and ignore the most important aspects of our government. We are in trouble and will fall as the Roman empire did.
I think this all the time. I mean, we know batting averages. We know field goal percentages. We know specific FACTUAL minutia about entire leagues! But will listen to news sources we know full well are lying to us but just don't give a shit about the planet or the future compared to our team.
I spent 45 minutes last night agonizing over the best quality tool cart. In the end, I decided none of them would work and I should try something else. If people would spend this much energy on their elected officials we'd have a better government. Alas, no tool cart.
But the stats for teams are accurate and easy to find. Unbiased, objective info about candidates not as easy to find. Also, can someone ban people from naming bills the opposite of what they actually do?
Was going to say! Perhaps early in the drafting process the headline is designed to fool the opposition?
Whatever, result is to delegitimize language
or corrupt it with irony.
And free Healthcare,
Affordable medicine,
Lower prices due to stopping monopolies,
And about a hundred other benefits to having politicians that work for we the People instead of corporations and their self interests.
Ballotpedia is one small way of searching the position of people on the ballot. I also just joined the League of Women Voters some I can become more informed. If we taught critical thinking...
I had this thought with education, and I think it could apply to politics too, but game-ifying education in ways that make educating yourself addicting would probably have HUGE benefits to society.
I played computer games that taught me math growing up. Maybe we can do the same with politics?
We do. White Privilege has a way of getting a pass. People of color running for office or being nominated get all the mud thrown at them! You know that, though.
Candidates today say the quiet part out loud. Everyone knew exactly who Trump was when they voted for him. These people are assholes right in front of the camera, and they still win elections. People vote for them BECAUSE they're assholes.
Right, but it's the same thing with projects be it purchasing all-encompassing manufacturing system or powerplant, the WANTs go way ahead of the NEEDs.
True, Jack. Imagine if we studied candidates’ policies like player stats, our democracy would thrive. Research, vote, and invest in the future like it’s the most important draft of your life. Small efforts create big wins for all of us. 🗳️✨ #VoteWithIntention
• didn't know how tariffs work
• didn't know the ACA = Obamacare
Also, despite what the press/pundits always say, the election IS a popularity contest - with about the same level of depth as a student council election.
I had to pass an FBI background check to visit the Whitehouse for a game jam. Compare that to political candidates (except Progressives) don't seem to undergo even a TSA level inspection by the news media, and therefore by the public. Odd that only oligarch friendlies get a free pass. ODD!
Agree about the research but none of our candidates are what we need. And if they start off that way they become politicians and stop caring about people and start caring only about votes.
That isnt really true. The problem isn't vetting candidates. A major problem with political candidates is that politics is a moneyball game to appease the moneyed ruling class. You have to be a millionaire to be in national politics. You also need millions to run a national campaign.
Have Hollywood create a new west wing. 1 that shows how we the people can rule and not corporations. Call it we the people. Dem prez, dem senate, dem house and a balanced scotus. Put it on film. Bal the budget using Corp & billionaire taxes. Create a healthcare system. Show the US what can be done.
No what we need is a total restructuring of govt with house and senate totally changed. It always favors conservs and we need GOOD ppl to run and support them. All we seem to get to run r corrupted power mad ppl that cave immediately
Really? Look how much crap has been exposed about trump. Did that keep him out of our election? He’s a rapist, a con man and a murderer. He’s broken every law we have. Explain that!
I keep saying that if Democrats were smart they would proactively fill our inboxes with bite-size emails about their policy ideas (in detail w/ specifics about how it benefits us) with sharable links, encourage people to vote in the next election and, only after that ask for some money if possible.
Fantasy pools provide more details. For example, with Trump, we don’t know how many passes he’s made. We don’t know how many he completed. Would have to get that information from women. How many fumbles he made in the passing attempts and so on
We have to stop letting parties choose candidates and society must have a list of rules including that their full CV, Resume and bio be posted for all to see; a security clearance, credit check, mental health check, criminal record check, references, conflicts of interest, investments…
This is the way. Between financial motivations and the corporate buyout of mainstream media, most people don’t know enough about a politician, their track record, or history. Yet, we continue to leave it in the hands of a system that has repeatedly shown it’s not serving our best interests.
I’ve been saying this since I could vote! I had to go through a more thorough background check to teach in public schools than our president-elect and all his buffoons ever did!
Definitely something wrong with the electoral process in both our countries! When they get in power - they have never geared it toward the common person being elected! Always people with money. Very rare you see a grassroots winner!!
I wrote a White Paper proposing a new branch of the federal government. This is not any of the current Inspectors General, but may be expanded from them, or given a different name.
Well a lot of the folks who do "research" just fall into some political echo chamber and will choose the candidate who simply makes them feel smart. So as you point out, not all "research" lead to good outcomes.
The great thing about Don’s recoronation is that we’ll get to hear his congratulatory phone call to the winning head coach of New Super Bowl 1 on TV, a la Nixon, starting a new yearly Presidential tradition after the game in February.
Doing your research for voting after you voted in, is like studying for a test after you took the test.
Guess what Republicans, I will save you a Google search: you can NOT change your vote after the fact.
FAFO is going to effect you, just like the rest of US-All, and you are NOT in the majority.
Someone recently reported that we choose incompetence over qualifications and credentials because the people want change. Don't think anyone is prepared for this change not what type of activism à la Korea or Mexico recent history to get Government's attention & hope we don't wind up in the Gulag.
I was just telling someone I don’t see how people can still be into this sports shit like all this shit isn’t about to explode… must be nice. Hey jack could you please make a post about Henrietta Lacks and the fact that she saved us. Racist need to know their lives were saved by A Black Woman.
“We” when you’re a blue dot in a red state, when the electoral college gives the same amount of representation to California’s 40 million citizens as Wyoming’s 600,000, “we” don’t really have say in any of this.
We also need to make every candidate for the Democratic Party sign a legal document that they will not flip & change parties during their term or be liable for $5 Million. Tired of bogus candidates who flip after taking DNC & donor funds & stealing voters votes
Yes.
But as @scritchley.bsky.social so ably pointed out on Joan Esposito's show this past Friday, people don't vote for rational reasons, people vote for EMOTIONAL reasons, always. That goes for when Obama and Bill Clinton won. We need Dems to get back to emotions...like FDR, Truman, etc did.

those who intentionally, purposefully, willfully choose to be ignorant of that which affects us all..
We have half the electorate that treats all this like it's a sports game or WWF already.
They will vote for the flashiest and trashiest.
They've already been given the worst about him and either don't believe or they don't care, as long the other side loses.
(In my op)
How about this.. I know it's going to be wild but ...
*Give people something worth voting for*
seriously, though, you are absolutely right

We follow problems over people, and will be promoting candidates that want to solve these issues as we get closer.
A strong, organized coalition can absolutely take this issue on. Join us
