Right, and Trump has also admitted that if he did bring Abrego Garcia back, he'd have the option of moving to remove him via lawful channels anyway. Trump and Stephen Miller are deliberately sticking to the illegal course of action to set a precedent for much more to come.

Gov. Tim Walz State Address: "We have university students shoved into unmarked vans and fathers being tossed into Salvadorian gulags without a hint of due process. If you say you love freedom, but you don't believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn't freedom, it's privilege."

We must expect and demand that the executive branch follow the law. We must expect and demand that the executive branch comply with court orders. To expect and demand anything less is a form of obeying in advance. Defeatism is a form of surrender.

We are witnessing in real time what the descent into fascism looks like. If spineless Democrats won’t take “extraordinary action” in these extraordinary times, we need to replace them with Democrats who will.

From the SendItToRachel.com mailbag we hear that Oregon is working on a Social Security service disruption reporting system. Have you heard anything similar in your state?

It is important to understand what a complete and unqualified failure Elon Musk and DOGE has been. (📸 Wall Street Journal)

Spurred by ProPublica’s reporting, Democrats have introduced a measure designed to block a right-wing strategy to disallow ballots after they were cast. It’s being used to try to upend the results of a key state Supreme Court race. By @dougbockclark.bsky.social

The death of the Fairness Doctrine was brought about by Reagan and McCain, and may be their most consequential legacy

In Signalgate, Trumpworld is demonstrating exactly what's wrong with authoritarian populism: Refusal to admit error, walling out of constructive criticism, the cult-like defense of the leader at all costs. Transcript of discussion w/ @zackbeauchamp.bsky.social: newrepublic.com/article/1932...

Calling something that definitely isn’t a hoax a hoax is helpful because it shows none of the other stuff they called a hoax was a hoax either

Dean Chemerinsky and other #lawschool deans "speak as legal educators, responsible for training the next generation of lawyers, in condemning any government efforts to punish lawyers or their firms based on the identity of their clients or for their zealous lawful and ethical advocacy."

Someone was sent to an El Salvador prison, without a hearing, because of a soccer tattoo. Someone else had a tattoo of an autism awareness ribbon, in honor of his brother with autism. Another person had a hummingbird tattoo that symbolizes harmony. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

CIA Director John Ratcliffe on March 25 gave a rousing assessment of Ukraine's desire to achieve lasting peace, insisting its people and armed forces would fight Russia with "their bare hands" if they had to. The Kyiv Independent asked five Ukrainian soldiers how they feel about the prospect.

NEW: California Sen. Alex Padilla (D) says that “the executive order signed by Donald Trump is a blatant federal attack. Let’s be clear: this action aims to make free, fair and accessible elections nearly impossible.”

Break it, blame it, privatize it. This is Trump, Musk, and the Republicans’ plan. www.businessinsider.com/social-secur...

While less sensitive than the Hegseth and Walz messages, I'd note that the CIA would normally consider this statement from DCIA Ratcliffe to be classified. It reveals: 1. CIA support to a military operation. 2. Gaps in CIA coverage on the Houthi leadership. Ratcliffe's testimony is not credible.

The Times has to issue a correction here. An Executive order can’t “require” any such thing. Calling it ‘an aggressive push to catch” fraud is bad editorial judgment. The first part is demonstrably false. Those who have any voice to the Times need to demand this. Might as well say pigs fly.

1. Tulsi Gabbard was overseas while participating in the Signal chat. 2. Steven Witkoff was in Russia when he was added to the Signal chat. 3. Russia infiltrated Signal some time ago to use it against Ukrainians. It’s high time to Benghazi the shit out of Trump’s administration.

If you want to increase homeownership you need some combination of more homes or laxer mortgage standards or both, restricting investment in rental housing doesn’t help. www.slowboring.com/p/protection...

Back to work after a week off and wanted to belatedly share thoughts on America's Middle East policy after a trip to DC this month. The first of which is that Trump has a skeleton crew: if personnel is policy, there's almost no policy because there are almost no personnel. 🧵

The law firm, founded and chaired by Democratic election lawyer Marc Elias, said in a statement Saturday that there would be "no negotiation" with the White House about the clients it represents or the lawsuits it brings on their behalf. www.aol.com/no-negotiati...

Hey, Politico -- I consider myself to have "long-term standing in the private legal community" and I have been willing to speak out almost every single day. And, I'm not alone. Yes, there is widespread cowardice among law firms, but don't ignore those refusing to bow down. Defiantly, Marc Elias

I keep thinking back to Project 2025's Kevin Roberts saying last July that "the second American Revolution ... will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be.” Trump didn't win a majority of the popular vote last year. His fascist movement aims to make its dominance appear inevitable. It's not.

Smart reporting by a brilliant reporter, @sangernyt.bsky.social In national security it is far too easy to be penny wise with cuts that are pound foolish over time. China and Russia will take advantage. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/22/u...

Welp, there goes the US defense industry.

Do you get it yet, law firms? What’s happening isn’t an isolated threat to Paul Weiss or Covington or Perkins Coie. It’s an existential threat to the independence of the legal profession. You’re a fool if you think you won’t be next. Say something. Do something.

They don’t get it. None of the nominally powerful institutions in this country get it.

NONE of this is normal

Oil and gas industry wants to be able to dump highly toxic fracking wastewater—full of benzene and heavy metals, often radioactive—with more abandon, including in rivers and streams, and White House is open to that. insideclimatenews.org/news/2003202...

I’m tired of all the moral cowardice. And now I’ve never been angrier about it.

Shutting down a bunch of federal agencies only makes sense if the plan is to retain power indefinitely. I’d like to see reporters ask prominent Republicans if they think Democrats will just rebuild these agencies in four years. I believe some of the answers would be revealing.

Escalating warnings of a potential Russian attack on NATO have raised fears in the Baltic states that they could be next in the crosshairs. Talk about a potential Russian invasion is "very common at parties, gatherings, lunch breaks, water cooler talk," one Vilnius resident says.

Baltics preparing for war with Russia. "With this decision, we are sending a clear message: our countries are prepared and can use every necessary measure to defend our territory and freedom.”

With everything happening in the US right now, how safe are scientific conferences for foreign participants in the US? I think this is something we have to discuss as a scientific community. I am hesitating to register for US meetings due to the unpredictable situation. Others who feel the same?

"I think you caved. I don't think you showed the fight this party needs right now, because you're playing by a rulebook where the other party has thrown that rulebook away" -- here's the full clip of Sunny Hostin confronting Schumer today on The View

Good morning. I don’t have any positive affirmations for y’all today. Have the day you deserve.

We have overcome near-death experiences before. We shall overcome this one too. Not by denying we are in a constitutional crisis. We are. But we can and will prevail if we face the truth unflinchingly and never abandon the long twilight struggle against evil. open.substack.com/pub/roberthu...

It's just civil war at this point. I don't know how we're going to manage that but it needs to happen and we need to make a difference. This is only going to get worse. We took a mob businessman and had dictators teach him how to run the country. We are in so much danger. We must stop this.

Other people are still at "is it a constitutional crisis yet?" and I'm at "the crisis was several exits ago, the car has crashed, we're now just seeing how many cars end up in the pileup and how high the casualty count is" or "the house is actively burning down, the question is what's left after."
