Meanwhile, Winnipeg has “vehicularized” the community bike lane pilot on Wellington Cres

Hey so this is gonna be talked about on Thursday, June 12’s Public Works Meeting, along with the rest of the Transportation Master Plan. If you want more from your city than half-veiled attempts at furthering car dependency, you have to show up and say something about it.

The city spent time and money immediately taking down the pilot project because it posed a theoretical danger to vehicles. The city has taken more than a year, and may take another further year, to do anything to address infrastructure that is proven deadly to cyclists.

Winnipeg cyclists build their own bike lane, because the city is taking too long, and declare @thewaroncars.bsky.social

the people who make this country unsafe aren’t immigrants. the people who make this country unsafe are cops.

This is entirely opposed to the tune Janice Lukes was singing when she added the temporary measures to the motion requesting a report. Her entire promise was something this spring! The point of a temporary measure was safety until a permanent solution can be studied! People will die because of her!

Bright-red balloons attached to the handlebars of a white “ghost bike” memorial Friday marked the one-year anniversary of a cycling enthusiast’s horrifying high-speed hit-and-run death on Wellington Crescent.

Results are in from the community-built pilot project: it’s fun as hell!

If you don’t build it, we will

#Winnipeg 🚲💞

Dope stuff. Power to the People. #Winnipeg. Sweet hiss.

Let’s do this more of this. Love it!

Vigilante bike lane on Wellington Crescent. Love it.

This follows a 60 day delay on a 120 day report. So we can expect the meeting in July to see a 15 day delay, August a 7.5, September a 3.75, and so on - Janice Lukes will promise we are always approaching action, but never actually reaching that limit.

Wellington Cres *is* on one item of the agenda next week, the Transportation Master Plan 2050, which indicates only a “Multi-Modal Corridor Study” for the stretch where Rob Jenner was killed. Our city can’t even promise action on a marked bike route *we know kills people* for the next 25 YEARS!

If a sink hole opened up and swallowed a driver on Wellington Cres, they’d close the road and start planning to fix it immediately. But the same dangerous road kills a cyclist *A YEAR AGO TODAY* and all we get are delays. Come to the block party today, Wellington Cres and Cockburn, 4:30 to 6:30.

Remember this next time Luke's talks about how much progress they've made and how good a job they're doing, because they're not.

Attend this #Winnipeg. Show Janice Lukes, Scott Gillingham and @cityofwinnipeg.bsky.social that safety for #ActiveTransportation users matters. For yourself, your kids, your community and especially for Rob's family.

One year ago this morning

Janice Lukes’s Public Works Committee agenda for next week dropped today. They’re delaying Wellington Cres bike lane pilot by ANOTHER 30 days.

Calling all garage sale enthusiasts! My neighbourhood will be a good place to visit tomorrow. 34 sales within just a few blocks. Enjoy!

We're only 6 days into June, but it's already the smokiest June on record since 1953 in Winnipeg. 58 hours of smoke and counting as of 6am this morning.

IMPORTANTLY, what is the world changing action that folks are being *distracted* from? Scrolling????

this is like drake and kendrick lamar but they're both drake

Next they came for the billionaire space nazis, and I said nothing, because I was not a billionaire space nazi.

Fuck this part, though. Eugenics. The death of disabled people or people with medical conditions isn’t acceptable loss to a preventable disease.
