I find the dismissal of ex-members on the grounds of bias bizarre - everyone is biased! I think NRM studies is making positive strides towards a more engaged study with ex-members, especially recent projects on spiritual abuse etc. Hoping our work is one small step in that direction :)

Thank you! I'm hesitant about the term 'cult' as a scholarly category (just like 'religion', I think it's tied to discourses of power), but I'm very aware that scholars' attempts to police the term has often resulted in the dismissal of survivor narratives. In our new research project ex-members...

Really good! My partner is a superfan (seen them over 30 times), and I've gone to my fair share now too 😂. It was a 30th anniversary tour, so the set was chronological (with the exception of Kicking Pigeons as a closer)
