I have a half formed plan in my head for an Interdependence Movement. The motto is "Peace, Justice & Cooperation"
Strong societies are made up of strong independent people, but grow stronger when we recognise our interdependence and work together for common interests
"Strength, Compassion, Reason"

Exactly.
I have a proposal.
Given where we are, we can't just act unilaterally and presume the world will follow our lead. Let's prepare to defend ourselves and our friends, but declare our intention for peace by spending 1% of our defence budget on peace initiatives.
That's £500m pa on peace

A little exaggerated, but comparing what I saw In San Francisco to what I see in Manchester, we may have a slight edge, but homelessness isn't a non-issue here!

The U.K. government's "foreign travel advice" for the U.S. warns travelers to
"comply with all entry, visa and other conditions of entry. The authorities in the U.S. set and enforce entry rules strictly. You may be liable to arrest or detention if you break the rules."

These countries operate under the "Nordic model," which is a form of social democracy. They are not socialist countries. They have market based economies.
A balance has been found between the excesses of capitalism and the excesses of socialism. Pragmatic Interdependence.

Lots of concerns over escalation and the lives being lost on both sides, but how do you deal with bullies, autocrats, tyrants? You can't just give in for "peace".

Indeed, "fairly, humanely and without discrimination" however we do need to acknowledge that there is a cost to upholding human rights - we can't allow our humanity to be portrayed as putting the rights of others first which is easily done by the likes of Reform.

The Russians may or may not have Kompromat on Trump, but that's not required to explain Trump aligning himself with Putin, oligarchs and Russian money - they saved his businesses when US banks considered them toxic.

Johnson on Trump (X):
"Trump’s statements are not intended to be historically accurate but to shock Europeans into action"
That's Boris Johnson justifying lies for an intended effect.
So what does this say about the integrity of these two?

Guessing the glide path isn't far off 3 degrees, and undercarriage seems to contact just before nose wheel, so maybe not flared enough, but rate of descent (ROD) doesn't look that great. Wonder if landing gear shock absorbers froze in the cold (is that possible?)

I think there's a case for a United States of Europe, an idea that's hated by those who want to divide and rule in order to preserve existing power.
You know, if Brexit was good for Britain, why not for any state in USA to "take back control"?

Really? Does that look like too steep an angle to you?
Apart from right side down slightly it looks like a decent approach. Reports are runway was clear, so it's not easy to see why the plane broke apart and rolled
It will be interesting to hear final report.
Thankfully no fatalities - miraculous

"Whenever Trump says something that is sympathetic to Putin's warped world view, Putin uses that against Trump.
Trump is actually weakening his own position."

Yeah, put a megaphone right up in Trump's face and shout it loud until he gets it, and follow it up with "MADE UP SHIT ISN'T TRUE" (oh gawd he's got me using all caps)

Q: How can you tell when Trump lies?
A: His lips move
No longer a joke because it's true. Is he capable of telling the truth?

It is a concern what he's offering to give away, but what he's keeping quiet about is what he expects in return ... Ukrainian minerals, Panama, Greenland, Canada
OK, Vlad, we'll split the spoils here, you get some Ukrainian territory, we get our bit & you make no fuss about our expansion elsewhere

Risk of shattered confidence in US Institutions and global financial stability?
I'm surprised this risk hasn't materialised already.
Consequences of massive system shocks are inevitable.

I can't say I know the specifics of the USAID budget, but I'm thinking beyond humanitarian support for those afflicted by war and natural disaster. I'm thinking for example of cultural exchange programs for young people and restoring trust in the United Nations, Human Rights & respect for Int'l Law

What is right and just will only prevail when we spend money on national peace budgets to build trust between nations
RIght now "defence" budgets are used to make the whole world suspicious of each other and make wars more likely where those who are better able to kill and destroy are the victors
comment in response to
post
Of course we must live in the real world & take our defence seriously, & that currently means spending huge sums in bullets & bombs
But what if, for the sake of future generations, we invested 1% of defence budgets in peace initiatives? 1% of UK's $50bn budget is £500m. What could we do with that?
comment in response to
post
Doing the right thing while paying attention to the mood of the country is a massively difficult task. Any implication that we can have an open door to all who wish to come to the UK is not going to play well. We must be fair & do what we can but be sure our message is not read as "immigrants first"
