There is a lot of talk in Canada about building infrastructure, new trade relationships, renewed defence and ideas that are popular in the abstract. There is little talk about details, money, changing regulations and the tradeoffs needed to accomplish those things (usually unpopular).

👇🎯🧵 Defense spending is merely a symptom. If 🇩🇪/🇪🇺 really want/need to separate themselves militarily/monetarily from 🇺🇸, the entire economic model needs to change. A defense fund while continuing to believe the rest of the surplus/export-centric/low debt model is fine is a category error.

I now fundamentally believe that the bad reputation that Italy has for corruption compared to, say, US or Canada, is mostly due to the fact that Italians recognize it, call it by its name, and prosecute it, while other countries have simply legalized it, de iure or de facto.
