Still, it was quite interesting seeing the evolutions between each title by playing them in a row, and it made me want to play more recent 2D Sonic games to see how the devs built upon that legacy (the only ones I played in the recent years are Sonic Rush and Mania)!

While I do appreciate their graphics and overall vibe, I can’t help but feel there are many inconsistencies in their game design and difficulty curve. Since I feel this way about all 4 games, I’m ok to say it’s a me problem, as the end result is clearly deliberate and resonates with many players.

Parry mechanics everywhere. Even in roguelite deckbuilders and dating sims.

Same... But they say it's for a post-launch delivery... 🥲
Fingers crossed!

Of course, I mean "complete" in a very personal way. While I do love retro game hunting, I only really buy stuff that I plan to use/play, OR feel nostalgic about. This makes the process very chill and relatively inexpensive!

This version almost sounds like it’s from the Sonic Adventure OST! It’s brilliant

Just switch to Story when you feel a particular boss or enemy is too tough, and switch back to Expedition for the rest. Story doesn’t make the game that much easier, though it does make failed parries and dodges much more manageable.

Seeing your list makes me wish Ubisoft had kept numbering their titles, a bit like the FF series!

My point is that titles that don’t reinvent the wheel but perfect it such as BOTW, Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate 3, or more recently Clair Obscur and Blue Prince, deserve to make history as much as their respective models and inspirations.
