Most people are not political scientists using formal definitions. So I am curious when is the moment that people tell themselves "oh, I live under an authoritarian government now." Because what else is this? www.reuters.com/world/us/tru...

I get that booing the national anthem feels liberating for Canadians, but it also feels like a missed opportunity. They hate him. We do too. So why not turn that moment into something bold? Imagine an entire crowd chanting “Impeach him!” for the duration of the anthem. Now that would be a statement.

The number of people who deserve a punching yet who nevertheless remain unpunched is always stunning to me.

The Trump administration will continue until morale improves.

I actually think the dems should attend the SOTU, wait till the 2nd sentence, and then walk out en masse, that'll do it, there'll be no address, he'll just have a meltdown on national Tv

Or maybe it isn’t?

Political elites cannot persuade on every issue with every voter (and they don't have to). But I agree with @jonmladd.bsky.social here political leaders have enormous potential to shape future public opinion and frame issues. That's basically what politics is about - don't cede that power.

Woke up this morning thinking about the fact that three autocratic, anti-democratic regimes—the People’s Republic of China, the Russian Federation, and the United States of America—now constitute a majority of the permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council.

Insignifiant.

I believe that too. It was a shameful day for America whose leaders betrayed basic American values. That said, America has to figure out how to stop Donald Trump from bulling/betraying allies. Otherwise, eventually its protestations will sound hollow.

You already have. Most of you are just too blinded by a lack of international media coverage to realize it. Your country is literally now the greatest threat to global democracy this generation has ever seen, and the remaining democracies of the world will react accordingly.

What happened today in the Oval Office is not only an ambush targeting the leader of a nation fighting for its survival to force him to surrender. It is a shameful moment for American diplomacy, that only plays in the hands of Putin and Xi who now celebrate the end of the West 1/

I've said it before and will say it again -- the Trump administration is not acting like one that fears democratic accountability next year or in 2028. Draw your own conclusions.

Volodymyr Zelensky's Oval Office visit ended early when Donald Trump and JD Vance began angrily yelling at him. Here's why women like Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton are too emotional to be president.

Journalists, please do not describe what happened at the White House today as a "spat", "heated exchange" or as Zelensky-Trump "going at each other". Zelensky was ambushed by Vance while very calmly explaining why Ukraine needs security guarantees and doesn't trust a ceasefire...

“MOSCOW’S MAN: Putin and Trump, the alliance of predators”

Kaja Kallas is basically the EU foreign minister I don’t remember a high-ranking EU official publicly saying that the free world needs a new leader and that the leader should be Europe We might witness a profound sea change in the West and the permanent loss of the moral leadership by the US

EU foreign policy chief: “.. Today, it became clear that the free world needs a new leader.” @kajakallas.bsky.social

Your dignity honors the bravery of the Ukrainian people. Be strong, be brave, be fearless. You are never alone, dear President Zelenskyy. We will continue working with you for a just and lasting peace.

Well, as America implodes from within, it’d be a *great* time for the EU to finally do official Eurobonds. It’d likely be very attractive as a safe haven given the destruction of US hegemony & spillover to US T-bills. Bonus: Eurobonds can finance a desperately needed European security build up! 🇪🇺💶 ‼️

Trump and Vance are part of the tiny percentage of Americans who sympathize more with Russia (4%) than Ukraine (62%) and who view Putin more favorably (75% unfavorable) than Zelensky (28% unfavorable) today.yougov.com/politics/art...

Dear American friends, Everyone in the democratic world knows most of you don’t support this shitshow. This must end, and it can’t wait four years. It’s time to remind Republican congressmen that they answer to you, not to him. You have legs. You have mouths. You have a constitution. Defend it.

Trump and Vance are not selling out Ukraine because of anything Zelenskyy said to them. Trump and Vance are selling out Ukraine because of things Putin and Musk said to them.

Freedom and democracy are always worth fighting for. Slava Ukraini.

Generations of American patriots, from our revolution onward, have fought for the principles Zelenskyy is risking his life to defend. But today, Donald Trump and JD Vance attacked Zelenskyy and pressured him to surrender the freedom of his people to the KGB war criminal who invaded Ukraine.

Do these fuckers ask Musk if he owns a suit?

Re-writing history is a tool of political fraudsters everywhere. Trump is its keenest proponent. The birth of the European Community, later the EU, was actually actively supported by the US. The joint, transatlantic goal was to secure peace on the Continent. It was a specific vision of FDR.

The Liberal Party of Canada will have to dedicate a big beautiful monument to Donald J. Trump. Because how is this kind of comeback even possible?

Great explainer from Andrew Chang. Can the U.S. auto industry survive without Canada? youtu.be/dcpehUVAx0k?...

Huh. Today's dose of twisted, inaccurate historical fiction (who and what is generating these bizarre ideas, and why??), while the 25% tariff announcement for Mexico and Canada for April 2nd (at least it was delayed again) floats by on the banner ...

The question I am really struggling with right now is: What is "law & order" and the entire American constitutional order *for* if it isn't a Go Directly to Jail card for guys like Donald Trump and Elon Musk for doing *exactly* what they're doing right now?

I gave a campus talk last night on Trump's first 100 days for the WUD Society & Politics group. A student asked me if I thought that, at some point, we might start to describe the US as a competitive authoritarian regime. I said that we were already there, it's just that most folks haven't noticed:

“If you’re running in fear of your own voters, there is nothing America can do for you.”

Liberals now in the lead. I don’t think we have ever witnessed such a dramatic shift in Canadian public opinion since we have data to track this. www.ipsos.com/en-ca/libera...

Please don't ask whether some real or hypothetical event "would make you more or less likely to support [CANDIDATE]" -- it prompts people to share their preeixsting feelings on the event/person, produces misleading results, overestimates impact and makes me personally sad

I think the right reaction here is not "this is an illegal assault on democracy" but "Trump is too cowardly or incompetent to answer real questions 🐓🐓"

"I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."
