“It's the right thing to do for families and the right thing to do for council budgets.” Graham Beamish & Marie Pye explain how Suffolk and Norfolk County Councils have saved 1000 years’ worth of care days for children and young people. Read the interview highlights 🔗

Jabeer Butt Chief Executive at Race Equality Foundation is starting off the conference by talking about how we can improve the experiences of people of Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic backgrounds and why they may have poorer health #ActionTowardsGoodLives

"Citizenship means being free, different and equal - we have the rights to do what we want to do and discover what's out there" - Wendy Perez is summing up what a good life really means at the Learning Disability England Conference 2025 #ActionTowardsGoodLives

Packed room listening by to Wendy Perez and @simonduffy.bsky.social at @learningdiseng.bsky.social conference in Manchester: We developed 7 keys to citizenship - we used ordinary words like Freedom and Love. @socialcarefuture.bsky.social @tlap.bsky.social @scie.org.uk

Shocking presentation on the extremely high death rates for people with learning disabilities from ethnic minorities. @citizennetwork.bsky.social @learningdiseng.bsky.social from Race Equality Foundation.

Looking forward to talking about strengths based practice today at the @learningdiseng.bsky.social conference in Manchester. This quote at friends meeting house always catches my eye.

Piece by me on the latest wranglings over a key plank of the government's NHS reforms Ministers want to get moving on 'neighbourhood health' - but plans have been subject to a tussle over definition & approach www.hsj.co.uk/expert-brief...

“Really good & enjoyed it a lot. Feel real motivated to get some positive changes made” “Lots to reflect on-thank you for a fab session” “Put some fire in my belly post Xmas” Just some of the fab feedback from session one of our #GloriouslyOrdinaryLanguage programme today @tricianicoll.bsky.social

Thank you to @katejopling.bsky.social for 🙌 facilitating; @LGA for venue& everyone else for contributing to such rich discussions & ACTIONS(!) at todays @tlap.bsky.social #TimeToActReformBoard workshop looking at fixing the #PlumbingAndWiring of social care with @socialcarefuture.bsky.social

While the government’s plans for #NHS reform are welcome, to be successful reform needs to be led locally not centrally. @chrisham.bsky.social explains why in his new blog 👇

Good morning from the peak district

Notable that the final keynote at social care’s big annual event #NCASC24 is @sallywarren.bsky.social talking about the 10 Year Health Plan. Reminder that health reform is happening while social care reform is not, yet.

Liverpool looking great this morning. Join us in a few minutes at the big chat with Leicester City Council talking about coproduction and social care futures plumbing and wiring project. Starting at 10:15 at #NCASC24

Emerging themes from CQC Assurance: Focus on inequalities and EDI, and prevention Recruitment pressures Partnerships are crucial to outcomes

Interim CQC chief exec @jamesbullion.bsky.social pays tribute to the leadership of Kate Terroni who led as interim during a difficult time. Greeted with warm applause by the room.

Unattended pick and mix at @scie.org.uk #NCASC24? I’m going to need a bigger bag…

Strong indication from minister Kinnock that govt is trying to find “the right mechanism” to achieve cross-party consensus on #socialcare reform but emphasises this is not kicking the can down the road #ncasc24

Stephen Kinnock Care Minister says “weaponisation of care has to stop” but he is seeing cross party conversations starting. Believes reform can only be done with cross-party support. “Change won’t be overnight”. #NCASC24

This looks like minister Kinnock’s ‘big’ announcement in his speech to #ncasc24 this afternoon. £22 million. www.gov.uk/government/n...

Great to see Kate Sibthrop of @tlap.bsky.social coproduction group alongside the @adass.bsky.social president and LGA chair in the #ncasc24 session with the Care Minister

Sense of foreboding (providers crumbling) from @vicrayner. she asks for social care to be central to policy, for pay & conditions to be improved (most workforce strategy items r modest costs except the fair pay settlement), an industrial plan for care & fairness #ncasc24

Care Provider Alliance chair @vicrayner.bsky.social says 79% of care providers think they will be unable to deliver new care requested by councils/NHS. 57% expect to hand back contracts. 64% will lay off staff & the same % expect to step back from RLW 22% providers expect to close down entirely.
