Hoping this is the last international domestic workers day that domestic workers have to repeat the call for a visa which means they can access rights as workers @voiceofdws.bsky.social

🔥 NI race riots - leadership needed to both end the violence and address the issues that have allowed it to fester.

Turnout in Italian citizenship referendum at 30.6% so below the (high) 50% turnout threshold. But over 11 million Italians voted in the referendum over these two days and over 65% of them in favor of changing from a 10 year to a 5 year residence requirement. elezioni.repubblica.it/2025/referen...

The CJEU has ruled that Member States cannot prosecute asylum-seeking mothers who travelled on false documents with their children as people smugglers - in a judgment with broader implications for the criminalisation of immigration. My analysis: eulawanalysis.blogspot.com/2025/06/a-ca...

Reminder that EU law on this is clear: Member States can only extend the period of a short term visa waiver for non-EU citizens on the basis of a pre-Schengen treaty with a non-EU country. Several proposals to change the rule have failed. Expecting the EU to change the rule for the UK is delusional.

What work is the ACLU doing to defend immigrants’ due process rights? I’m joined by Cecillia Wang from @aclu.org‬ on a new episode of @cafedotcom.bsky.social Insider while @preetbharara.bsky.social is out. Listen: cafe.visitlink.me/52k2aj

UT: "[ ] the Tribunal cannot afford excessive indulgence for non-compliance with the requirements of the rules. Whether a party is represented or not, they are required to identify the arguable errors of law in the grounds of appeal". How is a litigant in person suposed to do this?

Jacob Rees-Moggs' father, Lord Rees Mogg, opposed the stripping of citizenship from those born British during the passage of the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002, see hansard.parliament.uk/lords/2002-1...

Proposals include replacing test of capacity with that in the Mental Capacity Act.

To those concern with earned citizenship I warmly recommend Ann Dummett's ‘Changes to Citizenship’ Journal of Immigration, Asylum & Nationality Law, vol.22 no.3, 2008, pp213-7 in which she memorably categorised the then earned citizenship proposals as wordy, pretentious, bossy & contradictory.

Labours's 2008 "earned citizenship" policies started life as a way of makng people fee included, but morphed into additional hurdles for them to surmount. See my [very old] article The Borders, Citizenship & Immigration Act 2009 [2010] JIANL Vol 24 No. 2 118-133 philarchive.org/archive/MALCAG

Out in the latest issue of the European Human Rights Law Review, @colinmurray.bsky.social and I look at the recent Dillon judgments in the NI courts. The first Act of Parliament to be disapplied after Brexit, the case is due to be heard in the UK Supreme Court later this year.

"He asked those present to vote on whether they wanted to give their views on the whole of the green paper, & not just the questions selected by ministers". They polled yes, & gave views on all questions which DWP recorded. Lessons here for all those 'consulted' by govt, whether in person or not.

Ahead of report stage next week, the government have tabled their amendments to the Border Security bill, including trying to set a time limit for the hearing of some asylum appeals publications.parliament.uk/pa/bills/cbi...
