The only reason I could think of to be worried that Americans would not embrace the hard work and risk involved in opposing the slide in dictatorship is if Americans had a track record of eschewing or fumbling the easy stuff they could have done before this.

It is horrifying no matter what — and there is still a lot to learn — but it’s particularly concerning that the Jewish PA Governor’s home was set on fire on the first night of Passover. apnews.com/article/josh...

20,000 in ruby red Utah on their feet, in community, and ready to organize for a better world. A better world is possible.

To be fair, this is only because most Americans have just accepted that we will live in utter lawlessness until Trump dies.

Watched this last weekend! Loved it!

People who know me for 10 minutes have heard me say for DECADES now that there is no way forward that doesn't involve community-building. And some folks have been furious at me for pointing out the necessity of transformative justice. But here we are... both things are still true. THE END.

Please, everybody... if you need something light & funny… If you need a romcom… If you need a feel-good… Please pull up NORTH OF NORTH on Netflix and rate it highly. Inuit deserve so much more of this.

Chag Peseach sameach, my friends, may this year bring us all closer to liberation

Here's me spinning with a distaff & a reconstruction of early medieval spindle. Background bunch of my botanically dyed modern sock yarns. Today was Day 2 of Nadelwelt at the Karlsruhe Fairgrounds. #craftsky #spinning #handarbeitsclub 🧶

N95 Masks Nearly Perfect at Blocking COVID, UMD Study Shows Researchers Found Even Lower-Performing Masks Were Protective MasksWork www.threads.net/@sars_cov.2_...

The research shows that any mask is much better than no mask, and an N95 is significantly better than the other options. That’s the No. 1 message,” says Donald Milton, a professor of environmental health and a global expert on how viruses spread through the air. today.umd.edu/n95-masks-ne...

Analogies are never perfect, but this one is instructive. If you’ll indulge me: What would you call it if a German government ordered books from Jewish authors removed for being “subversive” and “anti-German” while having no problem with white supremacist literature? Because that’s what this is.

The problem with most machine-based random number generators is that they’re not TRULY random, so if you need genuine randomness it is sometimes necessary to link your code to an external random process like a physical noise source or the current rate of US tariffs on a given country.

I think a lot of USians will be learning some new lessons shortly.

For whatever reason ICE doesn't have a Bluesky account. So I thought I'd drop this in here. Note the Free Speech crowd has now put the good folks at ICE in charge of stopping, detaining and deporting "Ideas".

The SAVE Act passed the House today

The results from Germany's big 3-year UBI experiment are out! 122 people got €1200/mo for 3 years. All were age 21-40 and employed with incomes between €1100/mo to €2600/mo They were happier, healthier, saved more, gave more, enjoyed more social time, and DID NOT WORK LESS than the control group.

John Oliver's segment about trans athletes is a must watch for anyone who genuinely has "concerns" (and isn't just using that as cover for bigotry) www.readtpa.com/p/send-this-...

We threw a raid over to @readysetben.bsky.social who's also playing @southofmidnight.bsky.social and they're in Chapter 7 in case you need to know/want to avoid spoilers. twitch.tv/readysetben

"When print outlets bury one of the largest nationwide protests in recent memory, they’re not being neutral arbiters. They’re making a political choice about what deserves attention and what doesn’t." Print Media to Mass Protests: “Please Turn to Page 18” newrepublic.com/article/1936...

My standard metric for resistance is "Is it better for people to do X or for them to do nothing?" I find that that clears away a lot of the sillier arguments that tend to pop up.

The message is: crowd large. Many politicians, administrators, and business leaders, in bowing to Trump, have drawn confidence and comfort from the perceived vibe shift. Events like this puncture that delusion.

Lizzie & I are both shocked and honored to be inducted into the Filk Hall Of Fame this evening.

This embroidery in Evanston, IL, isn’t the quickest-reading sign of the #HandsOff protests, but it sure does capture the public mood.

Rep. Maxwell Frost: If we are quiet, if elected officials are quiet, then we are complicit. We cannot be complicit in the tearing apart of Medicaid, of Social Security, of food stamps and nutritional assistance, of the things that we fought for and earned! #HandsOff @frost.house.gov

If you're so upset about DEI that you'd be critical of having a black, gay, or trans doctor heading HHS, but you're not concerned that RFK Jr. has ABSOLUTELY ZERO MEDICAL TRAINING, you're not a critical thinker. You're just a bigot hiding behind a lie of meritocracy.

The lobotomizing of Ohio is showing little signs of stopping

Here is the top comment on this article: “You are advising responsible honest people who have worked hard, saved all their lives… to scale down their retirement dreams because a one person has decided to destroy the US economy. Why not write an article about how to get rid of the real problem?”

Anyone out there actively declaring that societal collapse is inevitable and unstoppable is without a single doubt helping the accelerationist destruction of racist fascists. Helplessness, futility and panic help authoritarians. Organised, active resistance hinders them.

In other words, rather than demonstrating backbone or bravery by standing up to trump's madness, republicans would rather let the nation/world implode, lose their jobs, and leave the mess-cleaning and nation-rebuilding to the next group of democrats. time.com/7274601/tari...

I blame George W. Bush. He softened America up to the idea that we could have someone stupid in the White House and things would still function.

New, please share this underreported info: US measles cases up 360% (over 500; 22 states), TX measles vax clinics closed, CDC gutted, FDA delayed Novavax, FDA bird flu response team fired, new #Covid variant + cases rising in different locations globally, and more: www.patreon.com/posts/covid-...

Cognitive load refers to how much working memory or short-term memory someone is using at a time. Minimizing the cognitive load it takes to use your site makes it more accessible for people with cognitive disabilities. Limit what you're asking users to remember to use your site.

Y’all did you see this It’s from someone named Joyce Linehan on Facebook and as a Boston born emigrant from the USA, this photo of the Old South Meeting House gave me chills here in my home in Cusco Peru.

I saw them in action in Philly 6 years ago. They’re good. They work with the Dems in some places, but they battle with them in others. If you’re looking to help make actual change, @workingfamilies.org is one to check out.

A lot of what appears inexplicable to some people can be explained by racism. I understand that it's out of fashion to say this.

Let people feel things. Let people feel sadness disappointment “There are more important” Oh hush! Let folks work through things so they can fight and grieve

I have tariffed the penguins that are on Heard Island and which you were probably assuming did not export goods forgive me they were taking advantage of us so cunning and so cold

It's weird to have elected leaders who say they want to crash the economy, reinstate segregation, strip human rights and create a perpetual underclass and then have people ask why are they doing this are they bad at economics ?
