Working class Americans live 6 years shorter lives than the wealthy. Doctors believe economic stress is a major factor in that disparity. I asked Americans to describe how stress impacts their lives & well-being. The responses were heartbreaking. Here are some of them:

The purge of senior officers who have served with distinction on the battlefield and off should send a shiver down the spine of any American who cares about an apolitical military.

SCOOP: The National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine, arguably the nation's most powerful scientific organization, is bending to political pressure and removing terms like "health equity" from pending reports. Members are not happy. Story by me: www.statnews.com/2025/02/20/n...

If "Immigrants didn't steal my job - the President did" is not the centerpiece of the Dems messaging from now on, this party cannot be helped.

This is not news to most scientists by now, but others might be interested. Biomedical research is undergoing tremendous damage, even beyond the firings at NIH, CDC, and NSF; the suppression of data sharing; and the attacks on initiatives to improve scientific quality.

(📢) This is an ASK ME ANYTHING (AMA) post—my first one in over a year, I think. Ask me any question, on any topic, and I will answer it honestly. (The only rule here is that you have to retweet this post before you ask your question, so that there will be at least _some_ audience for the answers.)

This is a really great read from @ryanhatesthis.bsky.social www.garbageday.email/p/you-can-ne...

If you read one thing today, I highly recommend this. Excellent analysis or current paralysis by Zoe Williams @theguardian.com

@sulliview.bsky.social 's powerful take on whether we should tune out (re news) "I’m far from certain that staying aware and engaged will make any difference. What I do know is that if we all tune out, there’s no hope at all." www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

In the coming weeks, a lot of slow-on-the uptake folks are going to begin belatedly realizing Trump is both an inept moron and a dangerous autocrat. Our great civic challenge in these trying times will be calmly welcoming them aboard instead of primal-screaming in their faces.

“Right now he is the most important person at the State Department,” one official observed. I read about Peter Marocco a bit in conjunction with USAID news. Learned so much more in this piece. It explains his terrifying (genocidal?) Christian nationalism and his history at State Dept.

What these nihilistic vandals are doing to dismantle science & medicine—generations of expertise & public service & life improving benefits—is cultural revolution level national self harm. No foreign foe could inflict such brutal damage & senseless suffering on US so fast & effectively & unresisted.

Hell of a day to kill the Epidemic Intelligence Service.

Our group has been hard at work to release a new tool: The Data Rescue Tracker. The tool aims to provide a consolidated overview of who is downloading which dataset from which government websites. Please share! www.datarescueproject.org/data-rescue-...

CNN: Do you think that calling Elon Musk "a dick" is effective messaging? Rep. Robert Garcia: "Well, he is a dick." I approve this message. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
