Completely agree! They may be fine for quieter areas, but increase either the number of pedestrians or cyclists (or both) and they are just not fit for purpose. But of course it gives councils the chance to claim they have x miles of cycle path even if the quality is dire.

Yeah, I get that. I tried Linux in its early days, but there wasn’t a lot of decent software for it back then - bound to be different now. I also can’t be bothered with all the faff now either!

One of the reasons I left IT was the forced obsolescence of hardware (and software). And Windows. I won’t touch it now!

Maybe you could teach your laptop how to multitask too?

Yes, but that means there’s less time to have to wait for the banana bread…

Whilst I agree with you, and do feel some sympathy for the driver, who is probably up against it time wise, it is ultimately the driver’s decision to park like that. Also, the paving looks to be suffering under weight it wasn’t designed for.

Funnily enough I said to someone a couple of weeks ago that anyone getting a Tesla now would be the equivalent of getting a Volkswagen in 1938/9.

They did used to serve a very good pint there though (not been for years).

I used to help out at a motorcycle travel event and it was exactly the same there - talk was of road numbers, traffic, miles.

Thames water ‘24 charges: supply fixed charge £29.14/yr
Waste fixed charge £83.78/yr
Usage charge 191.45/m3 fresh, 115.37/m3 waste.
‘25 charges: supply fixed charge £63.96/yr
Waste fixed charge £130.22/yr
Usage charge 247.43/m3 fresh, 154.80/m3 waste.
Rises so above inflation shouldn’t be allowed.

Exactly! According to Thames Water’s charges for the year ahead my bill will increase about 50%. Standing charges will cost more than the water I use!

Received notification of Thames Water charges for 25/26 yesterday. Looking as if my bill is going to increase by 50% compared to 24/25, with standing charges costing more than the water I use!

It was great, wasn’t it? It lead me down a fabulous rabbit hole of suggested videos of cycling events from the 50s and 60s!

Yeah, I probably wouldn’t do very well on that…hopefully my post count will increase once I can get out for some longer rides!

Fantastic! This £19/month hike will double my water bill! Enough is enough.

The “I’m alright Jack” approach to life is becoming ever more prevalent. Maybe they need a bulldozer to shift them like they had in LA?

It’s crazy how awkward it’s become to travel on a train with a bike - I tend to get the local ones even if it takes a lot longer just to reduce my stress levels. Bring back the guards van!

Yeah, it can get a bit like that. On the odd occasion I’d see where stoppages were going to happen near a nice bit of towpath/town and ‘accidentally’ get stuck there until they were over. Spent a real nice Xmas/New Year in Birmingham once too.
