Graceful degradation or progressive enhancement?

Shrinking season 2 is incredible. So many tears. I’m also very excited about MQ coming back.

Oh, hey! This is awesome—thank you for sharing. I’ve heard of several of these orgs (ITP, SPC) but never thought to look at events they might be hosting. These are the types of communities I would like to get involved with

This rules. It would be neat to combine this with the AudioContext API and create a little web-tech synthesizer. I was playing around with it last week and built a "theremin" codepen.io/andystewartd...

Ah—this looks amazing. Any tips for staying on top of events like this in NYC?

Every time some big news event happens, someone chimes in about how they’ve noticed that said event is being used by others to confirm their priors. At some point, does that become its own form of confirmation bias? It’s a bias ouroboros.

Ha—that’s basically what I ended up doing too. I guess that’s one benefit of the view transition approach where you’re working with screenshots instead of live elements.

Fellow web dev/Swift UI tinkerer here. Did you run into any issues when using MGE with text, especially when the text changes size between the two views? I had a situation where the text would truncate during the transition—never found a clean solution.

I felt personally attacked by this segment, but then Surma responded "Good lord!" to the idea of nested view transitions and all was forgiven.

Hope you got the adjustable stand 😅

Somehow this is the only image of the original logo I can find

Reminds me of @donnie.damato.design's essay, which has aged well: gridless.design

See you there 😅

TIL that you can define an easing curve inside of a key frame block. Very cool.

You create the effect by moving the canvas around within the viewport while simultaneously translating the cells based on their position relative to the viewport. I may share it at some point (but it's kinda messy). I may instead write a post over the holiday break. TBD.

Ohhh. Sorry 🥴 There's basically three parts to the screencap. The rectangle in the center is the ”viewport,” the light blue rectangle is the ”canvas,” and the dark blue rectangles are the ”cells” on the canvas.

The panel in the top corner is a debug panel that is tracking a bunch of events. This is an HTML canvas, so you have to do a lot more work to make the experience usable. The original video was a zoomed out version of this showing how you move things on the canvas around to create the effect.

I just fixed a bug that was causing issues on mobile, so if you were looking at it on your phone prior to now it may have made less sense. The basic idea is you have a big grid of objects that give the impression that they are seamlessly looping, i.e. infinite

Yeah, I was kinda worried about that, tbh. Probably easier to understand the concept by checking out this. bsky.app/profile/andy...

Oh yeah, I just don’t even fuck with double equals
