This one hits very hard. Other people have expressed this better than me, but I think racial inequities in maternal and infant outcomes are the "in" for a lot of people who have not previously thought much about this. Removing them from sight makes it possible to ignore.

Freedoms are kind of like the stock market. If people collectively panic & assume they're absent, the market can crash.
Limited versions of this happened with "woke" issues on the left in some US workplaces. It's happening now in the USG, but bigger & faster, w "anti-woke" orthodoxies on the right.

I read the book linked above, Monsters, last year and am re-reading it now. It's a thoughtful, often-funny, sometimes-bleak exploration of the futility of separating the art from the artist. If the news about Gaiman is hitting you hard today, maybe give it a read. (3/n)

... threw a BtVS-themed shower for @laurenginsberg.bsky.social, and when the stories about Joss Whedon came out, it felt like someone I loved had died. I can't really watch the show anymore; it feels like the weight of the abuse is sitting with me, quipping ironically about pop culture. (2/n)

I had cacio e pepe at Flavio's in Rome once with @laurenginsberg.bsky.social and it changed me on a cellular level.

For 2 people: ~70g of grated pecorino, lots of pepper, ~1 tsp cold water, 180g pasta cooked in very salty water, enough pasta water to loosen the paste enough to coat the pasta. This, plus roasted broccoli, is my "I need something good and I can't brain" dinner and it rules.

"When the answer is beautiful" is much better than my current approach, which is roughly "when I can't stand to look think about it any more" 😅

I worry this will get my epi card revoked, but I love this paper (even though the authors are, I think, health economists): academic.oup.com/ije/article-.... Just a really elegant use of administrative data.
