In all the discourse around tradwives, I wanted to know more about the kids who grow up in these kinds of families. This week’s nl focuses on them:

My next novel, BOG QUEEN, comes out on October 7 from @bloomsburybooksus.bsky.social and you can preorder it here: geni.us/bogqueen

Working on a longer thing, so this week’s nl is short and cozy

following a 2024 voter referendum, abortion clinics in Missouri have officially resumed services as of this week Missouri was the first state to ban abortion after Roe's overturn

After publishing this story, which features a picture of the protest at Children's National in DC, I have been informed that moments ago, Childrens National in DC has resumed transgender care. The hospital protests worked! Keep doing them!

For the nl today I wrote about something really positive that’s happening at the city and state level

Looking to talk to families / young trans people in New York or LA who lost access to care after the EO as LA Children's, NYU, etc decided to comply with the order, despite their state AGs saying the EOs aren't law. If you know people, send them my way!

I wrote about Trump’s executive orders and the effect they’re already having on trans kids

Very excited to talk to Olivia Wolfgang-Smith about the wonderful MUTUAL INTEREST tomorrow. Come see us!

College students in Michigan with an interest in journalism — this $2,500 scholarship is for you. Apply! Deadline is Feb 28.

Congrats to the Vox Union and the Dodo as we begin bargaining this week ✊ We continue to demand #oneuniononecontract and bargain in solidarity, despite Vox Media's efforts to keep us separated. Like/share if you agree we are stronger together!

For this week’s nl I wrote about red dye, RFK Jr, and the discourse around kids’ food and health

Nearly 3 years after being acquired by Vox Media, PS (formerly POPSUGAR) is excited to announce its bid to join the Vox Media Union. Following devastating layoffs, our prospective members are more motivated than ever to fight for an equitable, united workplace. Please share to show your support!

Trying to figure out how to best support victims of the Los Angeles wildfires? For @vox.com, I wrote a guide for anyone who wants to help, and how to do it — right now and in the future. www.vox.com/climate/3952...

This story was really heartbreaking to report but I learned a lot about what educators are doing to help kids in LA whose schools have burned down

this is incredible stuff. most state DOTs would spend tens of billions on highway expansions to try and see numbers like this (that wouldn’t even pan out anyway thanks to induced demand lol)

Hire Keren!

Hire Sofi!

Devastated to be back again with a statement on today's layoffs at Vox.com. Please stay tuned for more details on how you can support our colleagues who lost their jobs today.

Last nl of the year

Thanks so much to everyone who recommended their favorite kids’ podcasts for this week’s nl!

If you're a student at a 2-year or 4-year college, I'd love to talk to you about pressure to achieve (whatever that looks like for you) and mental well-being for a project. Glad to share details and can protect privacy. DM or [email protected]

Every @emilystewart.bsky.social story is so good

Today I am doing copy edits so it’s a good time to say on here that my next novel is coming out in October 2025 and it is about bog bodies

For next week, I’m writing about kids’ podcasts. What should I be listening to/what do the kids in your life like?

For this week’s nl I talked to young people about what it’s like applying to college right now

read @marincogan.bsky.social on the significance of Luigi Mangione having a "ghost gun" www.vox.com/politics/390...

The failure of the American Families Plan left many women feeling abandoned by the Biden administration. And that abandonment, coupled with pandemic exhaustion, made it hard for some (especially less politically engaged/not strong Dem) women to get excited about voting Biden/Harris again. 1/

good morning! if you're inclined to support good journalism please consider chipping in to the Vox Union gofundme to support our colleagues who've been laid off just before the holidays. www.gofundme.com/f/stand-with...

Here's my best book list from the second half of the year! I'm really feeling books that think about the sensual pleasures of language right now, and the list is definitely tilted in that direction www.vox.com/culture/3899...

Solidarity with my colleagues at Thrillist and Eater who were laid off. Hire them!

My newsletter this week is about something I also wrote a lot about in 2016 and 2017, unfortunately: hate speech and harassment targeting kids

Wondering what it’s like to go to the Supreme Court? I sat with trans teen L.W. during the historic oral arguments: wapo.st/4fjKpFn

Bingo: Cass Report front and center in SCOTUS argument, raised by Alito. Here's my reported analysis of the report. www.nytimes.com/2024/08/13/o...
