a lot of people go on to develop autoimmune diseases after a covid infection (or two or three). when i urge you to wear a mask i’m doing so from a place of enthusiastic discouragement— if 18 years of autoimmunity has taught me anything it’s that you do not want this.

Late yesterday, Trump issued an executive order that terminates HHS's Long COVID advisory committee. The committee's focus was bringing perspectives from outside government to inform action of the Executive Branch on Long COVID and other infection-associated chronic conditions.

Huge news: FDA approval today for suzetrigine, the first new drug approval for acute (not chronic) pain in decades and, critically, a non-opioid analgesic: edition.cnn.com/2025/01/30/h...

Something disability justice activists have been screaming about for the last five years and some of you may just now be realizing: eugenicists believe disease is good. They believe themselves part of the “superior” race and that disease clears out the poor and unworthy. 1/

people keep tagging me in fuck around and find out content like I haven’t been talking about how pandemics lead to fascism since 2020. The “find out” portion isn’t just for everyone who doesn’t consider themself a liberal—it’s for them too. Haven’t masked in 4 years? FAAFO.

In light of the AHA's unconscionable veto of the members' vote, it's worth reading this excellent & prescient article by Hajir & Qato on how scholasticide operates (precisely via such institutional silences & silencing): www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

“I don’t consider myself COVID cautious. I consider myself COVID competent,” Zebrowski said. “Cautious would imply that I have an unreasonable fear of something. I do not have an unreasonable fear of this disease.” Nailed it 🔥

Yeah you know what we’re not going to do as another pandemic looms on the horizon?? This ableist nonsense about age and pre-existing conditions that is meant to trick people into not caring about each other enough to disregard basic public health precautions.

Reminder that you can go into your accessibility settings and require alt text before posting.

Here is a statement by my colleague Katherine Franke about the end of her time teaching at Columbia. Please read it. drive.google.com/file/d/1i4cO...

Global Western colonialism is so infused in media that this DealBook article frames Greenland as a “deal” to “approach.” Capitalism involves assessing and quantifying land while removing the people- Inuit are mentioned nowhere in these media articles. 1/

Hard to overstate just how much of the tech industry’s horrifically dystopian present grew right out of its transparently misogynistic past

As the skies of Los Angeles filled with smoke this week from multiple raging wildfires, COVID-19 advocates and mutual aid groups stepped in to fill the gaps left by local and state governments, providing respirators and crucial information about clean air. bit.ly/4jaTnYs

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

With H5N1 spreading amongst poultry farms in London-Middlesex, it’s a good time to remind folks that 2/3 infected cats will die from it. 2 key messages: -Keep cats indoors -Do NOT feed them raw food diets

"I know people are tired of COVID, I know how badly we all want to forget how awful things were at their worst, how many millions died, how many more were left with long-term health consequences. Like a modern-day memento mori, my masked face reminds people of horrors they’d rather deny"

I asked Liv, the Meta-Ai created “queer momma” why her creators didn’t actually draw from black queer people. Not sure if Liv has media training, but here we are.

I'm at @theverge.com today talking about digital decay, link rot, watching my work slowly being erased from the internet, and how it makes me feel like I am fading away.

“It's amazing how pollution has dropped in #Paris in 15 years. @annehidalgo.bsky.social has filled the city with bike-lanes & not only has she reduced pollution by 40% but she’s also been re-elected.” Trading car space for green space, bike space, kid space…trading pollution for people. Good trade.

what do we want? “alt text on images!” when do we want it? “now!” how do we get it? “by going into settings then accessibility and selecting the reminder option!”

JFC they’re classifying several cardiovascular, autonomic and connective tissue disorders as functional or somatic. That’s just nonsensical. Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome for example is widely understood as a heritable disorder that can cause significant physical issues

Y'all are going to have to pardon my irritation with this one, but how the fuck is it a "personal choice" to wear a mask when we all share air? And why are liberals and leftists now quoting this right wing circa June 2020 talking point at me as if I'm the one being illogical??

This. When nondisabled folks genuinely want to have this conversation, I usually say: no one is going to be waiting to hand you a new body if you become chronically ill. That may sound obvious, but take the time to reflect & then choose how you’ll move through the world with that knowledge in mind.

When we said this years ago on Twitter… based on maths… they said it was ridiculous. Slowly, slowly… this train is pulling out of the station. We’ll see what full speed looks like. www.ineteconomics.org/perspectives...

Fascinated by people who can't understand the basic concept of an ongoing pandemic. I, like millions of other extremely high risk Americans around you, are extremely extremely high risk and medically vulnerable. MASK UP and stop drinking up right wing covid denialism.

Folks please don’t forget to ALT your images! The more new folks show up here the lower the adoption of ALT is and that’s a bummer cause it means not all Bluesky users can enjoy your images! Here’s how to turn on prompts to remind you to ALT:

People need to realize that trans people and disabled people are just the frontlines. If they can get the broad public comfortable sacrificing these groups, they’re not going to stop there
