I love this newspaper snippet because the use of the phrase "militant Corkman" suggests that any other type of Corkman exists.

Another night in, so going old school with tonight's viewing. Now that's some intro card.

LAUREN BACALL: you just put your lips together and blow HUMPHREY BOGART: *holding nintendo cartridge* i know how to get it to work lauren

For those UK folks yet to see it, Channel 4 are airing No Other Land tomorrow night at 11:15pm and it should be available on demand afterwards too. You need to watch it.

Okay, so everyone's posting their predictions for Oscars night, I guess I might as well join in, so here's mine: It'll be shit.

Yessssss

Can't believe it's pronounced Brady Cor-BAY.

I've got a new play coming soon. A conscription crisis in a near-future Europe, a world divided and preparing for war. Can you even imagine? THE DARK UP CLOSE - Scottish Storytelling Centre, March 26th + 27th. scottishstorytellingcentre.online.red61.co.uk/event/913:5893/

Back in film festival action today... but first, a trip to the Conservatoire to kick off the afternoon with a wee helping of traditional music.

Yes, I did this last weekend. Yes, I think I will do it again tonight.

Last night I saw the Scottish premiere of On Falling by @lauracarreira.bsky.social and it is a special film. I admired the careful restraint of its storytelling, and its insistence on our capacity for kindness and beauty. It announces Carreira as a film maker of real courage and humanity. See it!

I mean what are lazy Saturday mornings for if not watching a string of vintage Irish travelogue films?

A day off from the film festival today but luckily I am going to the Pars match this afternoon so I'll get a cultural spectacular* of a different kind instead. * Joking, obviously, it'll be one of the worst football matches I've ever seen

Dundee folks! ON FALLING previews on 3rd March @dcadundee.bsky.social www.dca.org.uk/events/oFf-p...

This is great stuff again. The Mitchell is a haunting and, frankly, very weird place (in a good way) and the insane carpets are an integral part of its "charm".

"All that way just to pick up a chicken?"

If you're planning a quiet night in front of the telly here's a wee suggestion for you.

Her By Design is out! The album was created with vinyl in mind, so if you’re listening on CD / streaming, after track 4 you have to imagine turning the record over. Spread the word if you like the music! Physical copies & merch: jennbutterworth.bandcamp.com #vinyl #newalbum #newrelease

Kicked off my GFF viewing this afternoon and it appears I was a bigger fan of Tornado than most.

Sad news about Gene Hackman, an absolute master. But we can at least be glad he made it the grand age of 95, was very well liked, and left an astonishing range of amazing work that people will be discovering anew for as long as people still watch movies. We should all be so lucky. RIP.

It's no Orkney though. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

Been a few times now and just saying, the wee downstairs venue in Leith Depot is quite decent. That is all.

#KaliMalone has reissued her 2019 album The Sacrificial Code You can listen to the full reissue here: https://buff.ly/41g4NlE

We usually refer to them as "governments" but whatever

Shortly before films take over my diary for several days I managed to squeeze in another bit of theatre. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee gets an outing over the next few days courtesy of the RCS Musical Theatre students and I very much enjoyed it tonight.

Was this book written just for me?

This is how I spent my Monday night and it was lovely. May it be the first of many.

Imagine that you voted for, let’s say, Fred Johnson for president, and Fred Johnson wins, and is sworn in as president, and then immediately the executive branch is being run by his friend Dave

Tonight's movie choice. Expectations are not high but it does have Olwyn Fouere and Lalor Roddy, so that's something. A sort-of vampire movie shot in Northern Ireland pretending to be North America.

It's been a really shitty week for me so for tonight's films I'm digging out some favourites for some good old comfort viewing.

This was SENSATIONAL

Splendid stuff at Futtle last night, beautiful gig in Kingsbarns tonight... I'm not saying every gig should involve Siobhan Wilson and take place in the Kingdom, but if it did I could certainly live with it.

It's on its way! Exciting times...

My ongoing haggis investigations have uncovered a chippy in my home city that does a spicy haggis, onion, garlic and chilli pizza. More news as I receive it.

The best tv series of all time. The best US director. The best soundtrack. The best price you will ever see for the definitive version of Twin Peaks. These will not last long. Twin Peaks on Death Waltz. David Lynch forever. Angelo Badalamenti forever. monorailmusic.com/product/twin...

Just got a nice wee visit from the postie.

I'm reposting this every time the wonderful @talkingpicturestv.bsky.social show the Harold Baim shorts in which Telly Savalas casts an eye over 70's Britain. Birmingham and Portsmouth enraptured our Tel, but today, Telly warms to Aberdeen! 1.35pm! #TPTVsubtitles film-authority.com/2020/10/04/t...
