When the 2000 election was stolen, it was in a dumb way. Bush's camp waited until it came down to Florida as a swing state and they basically told them to stop counting once Bush was in the lead. There's also the hanging chad situation. These are not sophisticated methods.

I don't think this quote disagrees with your sentiment. It's not saying to always take the side of the underdog. It's saying that not taking a side only helps the stronger party. You can still take the side of the stronger party.

I like to think that with public transit and self-driving cars, people who enjoy driving will sort of become like people who like riding horses.
At one point, it was a necessity of travel. Now, it's relegated to those who really enjoy it.
