i'm so sorry to hear that. feels strange to see this happen to somebody i remember from twitter - it's all too real. i hope there will be space for all affected in academia, and the space sector at large, once all this is over.

people are gojng to say âdonât capitulate in advance, what is google doing???â youâre missing it for what it is. they arenât capitulating, theyâre choosing. and theyâre choosing what theyâve always chosen, money and power

As a first step in the fight against these cuts, the UAW Higher Education department is hosting a webinar on Monday, February 10th at 6PM PT so workers can learn more about the NIH's actions and what they mean for us. Register for the webinar here: go.uaw4811.org/webinar

Bipartisanship with nazis is the same as being a nazi.

TBC the reason the ADL doesnât want to criticize the new administration is because to sustain their Zionist coalition they have to ignore antisemitism and if that doesnât tell you what Zionism is, nothing will

also, if you like PHAT, you will probably also like PHATTER - it uses similar methods to extend the survey to the neighbouring triangulum galaxy

PHAST (Panchromatic Hubble Andromeda Southern Treasury) is going to cover the southern part of the M31 disk! so we will eventually have photometric coverage for most of the galaxy (& the disk's overlap with M32)

i find myself adding site:reddit.com to my google searches way too often. despite the weird, and creepy communities on the platform, the good subreddits are absolutely some of the best things on the internet

iâve noticed a thing on here where people respond to extremely obvious shitposts in a very literal manner. if drilâs candle tweet happened here people would be like, âthatâs an awful lot to spend on candles. what brand are you buying?â

been thinking a lot lately about how the internet knocking down the walls around marginalized communities has exposed everybody to intra-community humour/lingo. it gives people the illusion that they are actually part of the community & can make those jokes. and then they end up sounding like this.

i know it's stupid, but i can't help it. irrational fears would be easier to handle. it's hard to talk myself out of reasonable concerns (even if they are about unlikely events).

i wish i didn't have to think about these things on top of worrying about my chances of acceptance/cost of apps/my lack of undergrad research experience as an international student. wish i had a full list of programs i felt good about, but i only have a handful. i've been paralysed by indecision

idk which programs to apply to anymore. it also won't be easy to survive on a non-union grad student worker salary if the economy is in chaos. every program i pass on brings down my chance of getting accepted.
