I see three possible options right now:
1. Khamenei does a khomeini ca. 1988 and drinks the “poisoned chalice” and accepts an imposed deal; or
2. He digs in and becomes a Hassan Nasrallah and gets knocked off; or
3. There’s a coup and a different version of IRI appears.

Because I'm hardwired to think of the strategic dimensions of conflicts such as this, I really appreciate pieces like this one from @arashtehran.bsky.social who gives voice here to Iranian opposition and pro-democracy activists, who hate the regime, but fear Israeli actions.
